Valentine?

For a baby boy not born on 14th. I like it because it's a Latin name that means strong and healthy, and I think it's time we reclaimed the lovely name from the somewhat wanky holiday. Classic or cringey?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hmmm. I do like it. But I think other people may have very different opinions. I did know a Valentino once nickname Tino. He was English but of Italian heritage (or so he said!).

ReginaPhalange89 · 06/08/2018 18:47

Cringey , sorry ! Not keen on it at all

daisypond · 06/08/2018 18:55

As a middle name, I think it's OK and nice, actually. I wouldn't be brave enough to use it as a first name. Could you use Valentin instead? Or there's Valery as well.

MadMaryBoddington · 06/08/2018 22:10

I like it but it would be difficult to live with, especially as a teen.

TiffinBox · 06/08/2018 23:12

Nope, very cringey like Romeo. Say if he doesn't get any Valentine cards & is teased for it? If you are fixed on it then use it as a middle name.

Picknickers · 07/08/2018 00:08

Nn Val? Oooh no!

Schoolworrier · 07/08/2018 00:12

I know one and he's a wonderful little boy so I'd say yes!

Pinky3 · 07/08/2018 00:13

Sorry but I think that the child will have a hard time with the name.

MKroundabout · 07/08/2018 00:20

I know one, I like it!

WilhelminaReko · 07/08/2018 02:31

I love it. Go for it. It's beautiful and there are plenty of male Valentines around.

HJL2506 · 07/08/2018 07:34

I prefer Valentino.

MariaMadita · 07/08/2018 07:50

It seems like a girl's name to me personally. (Probably because Valentine is a girl's name on German and French...)

I do like it but prefer Valentino. Or Valerio/ian.

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/08/2018 07:52

It's a bit too Poldark for me.

EmmaC78 · 07/08/2018 07:52

No, as pp's have mentioned it is a difficult one for an older child to carry off.

Ginandplatonic · 07/08/2018 07:53

I like it in isolation, but would be worried it would be a hard name for a boy to wear. I really like Valerian too - might be less loaded.

JessieMcJessie · 07/08/2018 07:58

Val Kilmer did alright being called Val picknickers.
I like it OP.

MariaMadita · 07/08/2018 08:33

I like Val and Vale as a nickname...

lizzybennett1926 · 07/08/2018 08:35

I like it but don't like that it will be inevitably shortened to Val, which I hate.

LadyKyliePonsonbyFarquhar · 07/08/2018 09:01

I prefer it as a girls name.

thethoughtfox · 07/08/2018 09:19

He'll be known as Tiny

ladybirdsarelovely33 · 07/08/2018 09:36

I like it but it works better if your ds is an arty type.

MKroundabout · 07/08/2018 10:01

thethoughtfox Why?

Argeles · 07/08/2018 10:03

It’s beautiful, go for it!

AnyaMoondial · 07/08/2018 12:43

It’s a bit of a risk I think. He might find it really uncomfortable as he gets older. Otoh he might love it. But......I don’t know, it is risky.

Rafflesway · 07/08/2018 12:49

Love it!

But then I do have a preference for unusual names.
