What’s everyone’s opinions on the name Freddy?

I worry how it will suit when child is an adult. Cute for a child tho. I’ve seen it spelt Freddie so I’d check which is the most common spelling

DramaAlpaca · 06/08/2018 00:08

It's even worse than spelling it Freddie. Sorry OP, I really dislike it. I don't like the long form, Frederick, either.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 06/08/2018 00:12

It's very popular round here. The last two baby boys I know of (both born to very young mums) have been called Freddie.

I hope it's not a trend that lasts too long.

Katy1610 · 06/08/2018 06:32

I don’t like names spelt with an ‘ie’ which is why I’ve spelt it like that, my own names with a y which is much less common than ‘katie’ and I’ve always liked that.

Like you said @Summerthunder - I’m not sure how suitable as an adult name either

I prefer Freddie as it looks slightly less childish although I really don't know why, my name ends in a y and I always wanted to swap it to or for this reason.

There are a few Freddie's here, the adults I know tend to go by Fred mostly.

Freddie Mercury seemed to carry it off pretty well :o

YerAuntFanny · 06/08/2018 06:44

*swap it for this reason rather.

rainbowsanduniicorns · 06/08/2018 07:05

I have a Freddie Hmmluckily me and all my family loves it, really suits him. Named after his grandad who was "Freddy". Not shortened for anything either, so it's not just a baby name at all. If you love it, go for it. I ignored negative comments, there's always someone to comment negative on whatever name you chose. Its a lovely name but I do prefer it "ie".

BunLovinCriminal · 06/08/2018 08:16

Am totally biased but i love it and think it can work for both a child and a man. Ours is an Alfred. He goes by Fred or Freddie if not Alfred now and it suits hm brilliantly. I like that there are lots of choices with Alfred (Ali and Al too, not to mention Alfie)

ReginaPhalange89 · 06/08/2018 08:19

I do like Freddie but it is becoming very common . I'm not keen on the spelling Freddy

userabcname · 06/08/2018 08:19

I like Freddie and really like the long form of Alfred!

SlowlyShrinking · 06/08/2018 08:21

It’s nice. I know of one, I think he’s about 8, and it’s Frederick on the birth certificate.

WhyBird2k · 06/08/2018 08:29

I know a Freddie. It suits him as a child but can't imagine what it will be like as a teenager or a professional adult. But hey I might be wrong!

bobstersmum · 06/08/2018 08:33

I like it! Especially Fred.

rainbowsanduniicorns · 06/08/2018 08:50

It may not suit an adult in this generation but when the children in this generation are adults it will be perfectly normal. Lots of children of today are given "cutesi" names. Just like I can't now imagine a baby called "Dave" or "Craig". Remember "Steve"'s we're once babies 😂

jellycat1 · 06/08/2018 08:52

I think it's fine but I wouldn't pick it. Also know quite a few.

Katy1610 · 06/08/2018 10:38

@rainbowsanduniicorns I agree with that, can’t imagine a baby named Dave. Although my dog is called Dave 😂

sleepymama38473 · 06/08/2018 10:45

I like the name but agree it is very very common. I know five Freddie/Freddys!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 06/08/2018 10:45

As he matures, he'll more than likely use Fred. I like it.

rainbowsanduniicorns · 06/08/2018 10:57

Great name for a dog OP! HahaGrin

bridgetreilly · 06/08/2018 10:57

Cute as a nn for Winifred.

Baubletrouble43 · 06/08/2018 11:07

I love it, it's a great name. Better than boring James or Matthew.

Baubletrouble43 · 06/08/2018 11:08

My brother is called Dave!
