I'm due to give birth to Dc2 in a few weeks. DH and I are going round in circles trying to find a name we like. I quite like Lydia and Spencer but I'm not completely in love with them. DH likes Nicole and Anthony - I don't.

What would you name Xanthe's brother or sister? (we don't know the sex)

Do you still want to carry on the Greek theme?

Xcisco · 03/08/2018 21:19

Not hugely, I don't think I could face another 'eh, what?!' when I introduce my child(!)

Imogen for a girl.

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/08/2018 21:22

I knew sisters when I was a child called Ngaio and Xanthe.

SauvignonBlanche · 03/08/2018 21:23

I knew a Xanthe who had a sister called Imogen.

I wouldn't think Xanthe is an eh what sort of name - I think it's pretty.
I like Anthony but not keen on Lydia and Spencer (but it does make me think of that nice chap from the Kirstie telly prog). Nicole seems dated.
How about Philip?

daisypond · 04/08/2018 18:55

Xanthe is lovely.
Livia instead of Lydia? But no doubt people will think Olivia - but Lydia is nice too.
I like Spencer and Anthony as well, though I prefer Anthony. Nicole seems a bit dated to me, though, as well.
Daphne.
Penelope.
Ismene came up on another thread - instead of Imogen.
Names like Christopher or Nicholas for a boy?

I quite like Hector (obviously I'm keener on Greek names than I realised) but our families will pronounce it as 'Ekta' they already pronounce dd's name as 'Sanfee' Hmm

I think I'm just going to have to pull rank!

Xcisco · 04/08/2018 20:02

Oh I quite like Melissa too. I'll suggest that to DH, I think he might like it (he has quite 90s taste in names).

manicinsomniac · 04/08/2018 20:04

My youngest is a Xanthe.

Her sisters are called Savannah and Jessica.

But there are big age gaps between all three and I have a very wide ranging taste anyway so I'm aware that none of the names are in the same 'category' as each other if you see what I mean.

I've never met another Xanthe but I see it going with either quite 'posh' names or quite 'out there' names - I don't know if one of those categories suits you? Something like:

Arabella, Araminta, Cassandra, Clarissa, Evangeline, Francesca, Georgina, Hermione, Isadora, Jacinta, Loreali, Miranda, Octavia, Seraphina, Tatiana, Vanessa

Alexander, Benedict, Christian, Elliot, Frederick, Gabriel, Hugo, Jeremy, Jolyon, Montgomery, Nathaniel, Nicholas, Orson, Quentin, Raphael, Solomon, William

Or something like:

Astrid, Aphra, Averil, Aria, Bronte, Calypso, Delphi, Effie, Fallon, Giselle, Honey, Indigo, Iris, Jessamy, Kiki, Leonie, Lyra, Mika, Mara, Nyah, Nova, Rowena, Rosina, Robyn, Saffron, Sorrel, Taryn, Tansy, Vashti, Veda, Willa, Zeryn

Arlo, Brynn, Blue, Cole, Dexter, Ellis, Flynn, Inigo, Kian, Nico, Owen, Patrick, Phoenix, River, Rocco, Talon, Titus, Victor

MikeUniformMike · 04/08/2018 20:04

Hector is growing on me. I like Melissa too.

daisypond · 04/08/2018 20:09

Hector is great. And I like Melissa a lot as well.

Frogscotch7 · 04/08/2018 20:13

I think Lydia is really pretty. And Hector is cool.

Xcisco · 04/08/2018 20:17

I love Francesca and Vanessa but they've already been vetoed. Araminta is my favourite all time name but I don't think we could pull it off (I wanted it as Dd's middle name but DH refused). I also don't like any of the diminutives.

I really struggle with boys names.

I work with a woman called Marcella, it helps that her surname is alliterative but it always seems like an elegant yet cool name.
