ARS initials

So our surname begins with an S and we love the name Ayda Rose. Is ARS going to cause issues? Would it be better if we used Ayda Rose Elizabeth instead?

Yeah I would add another middle name!

Not one beginning with S.

Beeziekn33ze · 03/08/2018 12:43

Hyphenating Ayda-Rose might help, then her initials will be just AS.

Mumstepmum · 03/08/2018 12:51

Thanks, if your double barrelled do you use the second name as an initial? I grew up with karlie-anns and rose-maries and never thought about it.

I know someone with the same initials. I wouldn't do it myself. Not sure if ARES is much better though.

Mumstepmum · 03/08/2018 13:50

Ayda Bluebelle was our only other middle name.

ARES is worse lol.

Mumstepmum · 03/08/2018 13:56

I thought it would be like Ares the God of war. Like Aries?

OP posts:
LoveInTokyo · 03/08/2018 13:59

Could you go for Ayda Elizabeth Rose? AERS is much less obvious.

Bluebelle isn't even a word, let alone a name. Confused

MrSpock · 03/08/2018 13:59

Kids will just think “arse” sadly.

I had to change the name I planned for a girl because the initials would be BAP, so I feel your pain.

Mumstepmum · 03/08/2018 14:07

Give it a google

It’s hard because I have only had one person ever ask my initials at school and probably because they weren’t an issue never asked again. But I guess if it’s potentially bad then it only takes one question!

Why does it matter? My initials used to be FAJ, said as in slang for vagina. I owned it and just laughed along with everyone else! How often are all her intiials going to be written down so some immature nob head goes "hahaha arse" and even if they do, who cares?

Mumstepmum · 03/08/2018 14:11

That’s my husband’s response too. I sit don’t want to hated 10 years down the line Confused

My daughters initials are PIG. We thought about it for ages, husband didn’t think it was an issue but I wasn’t sure. We were going to change her middle initial to O but then I said but what if she marries someone in the future whose surname begins with O!
We just went with the name we liked in the end. Like someone else said, how often are your initials all written down anyway.

JohnnyKarate · 03/08/2018 14:23

ARES is an anagram of Arse. But in all seriousness, she will probably not have any issues with her initials. All the kids knew our initials whilst at school, but only because we used them to label our pegs for our coats and book bags.

My initials whilst I was at school were BFG. I am tiny but still got called the BFG a lot. I quite liked it though.

Ginger1982 · 03/08/2018 14:25

I wouldn't think too hard on it! DH's initials are BRA...never crosses my mind.

Mumstepmum · 03/08/2018 14:26

My husband worked with a Pippa Peg once, her middle initail was O.

Pippa Peg!!!

LittleDoritt · 03/08/2018 14:35

I wouldn't. My girls love putting their initials on things and having bracelets etc with their initials on. They would be mortified to be ARS.

Talcott2007 · 03/08/2018 14:39

My friend and her DH did what is always advised on these sorts of threads and didn't discuss baby names with anyone in advance because they didn't want opinions.... Baby has now ended up with the initials 'HAM' I'm obviously not going to be the one to point this out BUT isn't the first rule of baby naming making sure the initials don't spell out anything!
This baby was so wanted and everything was planned and organised to the nth degree eg. They started researching everything - I'm serious when I say EVERYHTING - pushchairs, breast pumps, gestational diabetes, you name it they researched it a good 12months before they actually started TTC (This isn't a bad thing and nothing wrong with this approach obviously! Just both their personalities like to be well informed and most importantly they are brilliant loving parents)
But because of this attitude to everything else being to well considered I just have so many questions I want to ask them about the name choice - Did they not notice/realise she would be HAM? Are they not bothered about it? I can just foresee a life time of pig/pork related nicknames for the poor little thing!

keepingbees · 03/08/2018 15:21

I wouldn't use it personally. It's not a big problem if you really love the name but initials will be used though life such as on letters and debit/credit cards. My sons initials make up part of his I.D code which is used on his printed school reports now he's at secondary school.

ZebraKid71 · 03/08/2018 16:15

I wouldnt. Most things addressed to me through the post are (to use the above example) Mrs H A Mitchell.

userabcname · 03/08/2018 16:19

I don't think anyone would even necessarily notice. The only time I have used my initial is at work where we use our initials as our logins. Thinking about it though, I work in a school and there was a staff member whose initials spelt GAY so she asked to just be GY in case the pupils spotted it.

FASH84 · 03/08/2018 18:57

I think you're right to be a little cautious about initials, I agree ARES is even worse than ARS. We can't pick an F name as our surname is F-S , which is more annoying than I thought it'd be

MadMaryBoddington · 03/08/2018 19:08

I wouldn’t. When I was at school we had to have our initials embroidered on the front of our PE shirts. The ones whose initials spelt something amusing really suffered. One girl had to have ET emblazoned on her chest - not good (it was the eighties so very current).
