I need some feedback:

My favorite:
Elinor / Eleanor (nickname Nell, but I'm called Helena...so that's a bit weird and is all that is putting me off this choice)

Others I like a lot:
Isobel (nickname Belle? Don't really like Iso)
Lilian/ Lillian (nickname Lily)
Alice (Is Ailis Irish version, I'm not sure on pronunciation?)
Evelyn (nickname Evie)
Cora / Delia / Cordelia
Ivy
Elizabeth (dh likes nickname Liz Confused, I like Bette)

Still not totally ruled out:
Isolde / Iseult (too tricky to pronounce?)
Beatrice
Violet
Elsie
Iris
Leonora / Leonore

Middle name is going to be along the lines of Bridget / Jean / similar grandma type plain name.

Surname is O'......... I don't want her to sound like the name of a pub and lots of the nicknames kinda do.

Yeah DH suggested we try saying Sister before each names to check she doesn't sound like a nun!!!

Beatrice, Elizabeth and Cora are all great. I’d probably use Libby as a nickname for Elizabeth. Prefer Liliana to Lillian but I know lots of Lilys and that would put me off a bit.

FASH84 · 03/08/2018 19:00

My only real input is that DNs name is similar to Isobel and when we take her out it feels like every second child is called Belle or Bella

Loopytiles · 03/08/2018 19:03

Eleanor is too similar to Helena.

bridgetreilly · 03/08/2018 21:00

Elinor / Eleanor (nickname Nell, but I'm called Helena...so that's a bit weird and is all that is putting me off this choice)
I'm afraid it would put me off too. I love Elinor but a Helena and Elinor in the same immediate family is a bit much.

Of your others, I like:
Ivy
Evelyn/Evie
Elsie (could be nn for Elizabeth)
Isolde (not tricky at all!)
Violet
Cora (but not Delia or Cordelia)
Lilian (not Lillian)
Alice
Cora (but not Delia/Cordelia)
Isobel (but prefer Isabel)
Elizabeth (I do like this, but prefer your other choices)
Iris
Beatrice
Leonora / Leonore (I don't like this and it also has the same issue as Elinor)

Greeneyedgeek83 · 03/08/2018 21:58

My favorite:
Elinor / Eleanor- LOVE but is a bit weird with Helena I think. Your name is on my list too. Love Nell

Others I like a lot:
Isobel- is a bell..can't help but think of that and all the things that could be added on the end ...

Lilian/ Lillian- like but sick of lily. Lil is cute

Alice - A lice?

Evelyn (nickname Evie)- love this

Cora / Delia / Cordelia- love Cora but not the rest

Ivy- love
Elizabeth (dh likes nickname Liz, I like Bette)- love and definitely prefer Bette.

Still not totally ruled out:
Isolde / Iseult (too tricky to pronounce?)- is older. That's all I think of

Beatrice- like but prefer beatrix

Violet- violent

Elsie- love

Iris- love

Leonora / Leonore- like these a lot

Middle name is going to be along the lines of Bridget / Jean / similar grandma type plain name.

Surname is O'......... I don't want her to sound like the name of a pub and lots of the nicknames kinda do.

Lilian with one L (but I wouldn't gove her Lily as a shortening - it's a different name), Iris and Leonora are my stand-out favourites. Eleanor (not keen on Elinor spelling) I love too, but I agree it's a bit odd when you're called Helena - imagine a future dd's friend's mum telling someone else 'Helena and Eleanor are coming for a playdate'. You could give her Eleanor as a seond middle name.

Elsie, Violet and Evelyn are very trendy atm, so would avoid those.

RJnomore1 · 03/08/2018 22:07

Love Cordelia and Iris

DuskyMoth · 03/08/2018 22:16

If you like Nell, why not just call her Nell?

Or if Eleanor and Helena sounds a bit much, how about Ellen? You can also use Nell.

audweb · 03/08/2018 22:19

Just call her Nell! I have a Nell, and I adore it. It’s always received compliments and it’s pretty rare but nice and simple. It’s a fab name.

Picknickers · 03/08/2018 23:21

Nell is great. I also like Cordelia but does it get shortened to Cord/Cordy? Like Iris too.

RedDwarves · 04/08/2018 04:46

Eleanor/Elinor and Helena are pronounced quite differently here in Australia, but if you're in the UK, I'd avoid. I prefer Elinor though.

I like Lillian and Alice most from your list. Also Violet and Leonora. I am an Elizabeth and can guarantee she will get Liz/Lizzy as a default.

SleepWarrior · 04/08/2018 05:01

I love Cora, Cordelia, Violet, Ivy, and Elizabeth. Less keen on the others although they are still nice.

TheGhostOfYou · 04/08/2018 08:01

I had Eleanor with the nn Nell/nellie on my list for DD2 but she became a Evelyn instead so obviously love both of those. My Evelyn is not Evie though.

Others I like from your list
Alice
Ivy
Elizabeth
Cora/Delia/Cordelia

Agustarella · 04/08/2018 16:55

OP, you've spoiled things for DD by keeping the best name for yourself! ;)

Maybe as a middle name though? Cora Something Eleanor/Helena, or Leonora Something Eleanor/Helena.

Cordelia is beautiful.

DuskyMoth · 04/08/2018 19:05

I guess it does depend on you pronounce Eleanor and Helena

I know some people who are really particular about being called Eleanor with a strong emphasis on the nor and others who pronounce it Ellen-a.

Likewise Helena, I would pronounce like Hel-lane-a. But I know others who pronounce it like Helen-a

Obviously Helen-a and Ellen-a sound a bit similar. But Hel-lane-a and Eleanor would be fine together.

theveryhighlife · 04/08/2018 19:21

I like Cordelia and Cora

moredoll · 04/08/2018 23:22

Eleanor
Elizabeth (nn Lizzie?)

Gacapa · 05/08/2018 01:21

If you like Cordelia, how about Cornelia with nn Nell?

Lucylookingforhelp · 07/08/2018 17:38

Love Violet, my favourite from your list. Also like Elsie, Evelyn and Ivy. Isobel is pretty but am sick to death of hearing it and all it’s variants to be honest and just not a huge fan of Lillian
