Ruairi correct pronunciation?

Our new baby is to be called ruairi but we have heard several ways to say it.
OH family is Irish but even they can't agree!
I'm told definitely not "Roar ee" like story unless in southern Ireland
OH thinks it should be more rur-ee like ggrrr, rolling the u sound
MIL thinks more like Roo-ree as in "kangaroo"

Anybody else got a ruairi in the family? Our other boy is a red head so we hope this name will fit our new arrival perfectly.

Well it's not a zombie thread now you've bumped it...

There is no way in the Irish language to make "Rua" rhyme with the Or in "Story"...

It's Brewery without the B, or roo-ree if you don't want to get hung up on the schwa.

@RuairisDad
Anglicized pronunciations often differ from the original Irish though, not just anglicized spellings. This is very obvious in surnames, but holds true for some - not all - first names too. Have you any evidence that Ruairí was originally pronounced Roar-ee in any dialect? It seems strange because Rua is pronounced Roo-ah in all modern Irish dialects as far as I know.
I do love the Roar-ee pronunciation, but would spell it Rory.

To reignite this zombie thread once more...

Ruairí - does it have to have the fada, or could Ruairi also be correct? I’m thinking of eg Rónán which is correct with it without, before anyone jumps on me about destroying Irish heritage!
