Eilidh or Eimear?

I also like Caitriona.

Middle name will be Mary.

We're in Glasgow, strong Irish contingent among friends and family so I don't see many pronunciation difficulties coming up.

I love the name Eilidh!
Unfortunately although we live in Scotland our family is all based in England and they would never be able to spell/pronounce it!

neveradullmoment99 · 02/08/2018 19:27

Tons of Eilidh's around Scotland. My niece is called Eilidh. She knows lots of Eilidh's at her school. We come from Scotland.

Makes a change though OP, nothing wrong with a name just because it's out of favour. Atm in Ireland several Irish names are the anim du jour :-p such as Siobhradh, (siofra) Fiadh

YaLoVeras · 02/08/2018 19:30

I like Siobhradh and Fiadh though, not knocking them but it is a bit left field to use Eimear, not in a bad way!

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 02/08/2018 19:30

I live in the Western Isles, so if I turn round too quickly I'm very likely to stand on either an Eilidh or a Catriona, possibly both. It's popular for babies as well as common for older people.
I like both (although not at all keen on Eimer) but if you are having a Gaelic first name I think Mairi (or any of its variant spellings) would go better for the second name.

I have an Eilidh but she is a teenager and know a baby Eilidh

Allthegoodusernamesaregonesad · 02/08/2018 19:38

Eimear with a fada. Pronounced a-mer. I know a few called that

MoisturisingMoon · 02/08/2018 19:41

Yes, the girls I grew up with have chosen very very Irish names, even a little Sadhbh.

And loads of Aoifes, which is a shame because I think that is a very pretty name.

Eilidh is a great name! Definitely gets my vote.

I know a 7 year old and a 20 year old Eilidh.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 02/08/2018 21:59

How about Áine? Might fit with the Mc surname nicely also

Attie17 · 03/08/2018 08:13

I think they are all absolutely beautiful names - lucky baby!

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 03/08/2018 08:19

I do love Aine.

lostlalaloopsy · 03/08/2018 08:21

I vote for Eilidh! I am biased though as I have my own lovely little Eilidh!

noseoftralee · 03/08/2018 08:22

Eilidh Mary said fast sounds like ‘Hail Mary’ . It’s a gorgeous name though - maybe Eilidh Something Mary to break it up? Also love Emer/Eimear

dinosaurkisses · 03/08/2018 09:32

I love Eimear- I had it on my list for this baby but DH doesn’t like it. We already have a Sadhbh and I wanted to stick with another Irish legend name, and Eimear would be perfect.

Eimear Mary have too many mmmm sounds for my ear, but I suppose if you’re balancing how often youll actually say the full name it won’t be that often to matter!
