Is Zelda too associated with the witch?

Just that really. OH suggested it and it's got the vibe I like but I'm worried the game is still too popular. Grateful for other similar suggestions.

I love Zelda ❤️

BobbyGentry · 30/07/2018 23:15

For me, Zelda’s a princess’ name from a popular/cult gaming series. Link is her sidekick. Don’t know the association with a witch, sorry.

bumfloss · 30/07/2018 23:15

A friend of a friend of a friend used it recently and the general reaction is wtf. To me it's definitely still the game

shakeyourcaboose · 30/07/2018 23:16

For me it's Sabrina's auntie!

NicoAndTheNiners · 30/07/2018 23:19

Zelda isn’t a witch in the game, she’s a princess.

Robin william’s dd is called Zelda.

I love the name. I am a gamer and yes associate it with the game but don’t think others would.

NonStopDisco · 30/07/2018 23:19

Game. Took me a moment to get the Sabrina reference. I used to love that show! I would use it.

partydownseason2 · 30/07/2018 23:20

I have a friend called Selda (it’s a Turkish name) who has always been know as Zelda. Love the name!

myrtleWilson · 30/07/2018 23:20

I love Zelda... but I do also love Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda Fitzgerald (despite their individual problems). Zelda is a fabulous name!

NicoAndTheNiners · 30/07/2018 23:20

I mean some would, but lots wouldn’t.

I always think a name becomes the person anyway iykwim? So if I met a girl called Elsa I wouldn’t think Frozen or Born Free, I’d start associating the name with that person.

Racecardriver · 30/07/2018 23:21

What witch? I went to school with a zelda though, she would have made a great witch. Looked a bit like willow from buffy.

Iscreamforbenandjerrys · 30/07/2018 23:21

Unfortunately it's a no for most people over about 40...

GreyGauntlet · 30/07/2018 23:28

I only think of Zelda Fitzgerald

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/07/2018 23:44

It makes me think of Zelda from Pet Semetary.
Who was apparently played by a man

DiegoMadonna · 31/07/2018 01:24

Zelda isn’t a witch in the game, she’s a princess

Evidence that at least some people won't think of a witch.

But also evidence that if they don't think of a witch, they will think of a popular computer game.

Shame because it's a nice name out of context.

LastNightsMakeUp · 31/07/2018 06:00

Outing potentially but my mother is called Zelda - she predates Sabrina and the video game. We liked to try to convince her she was a video game troll when we were children... she didn't mind, she knew she was a princess 😂. It's a great name!

She only has positive reactions to her name.

PalePinkSwan · 31/07/2018 06:26

I’m 42 and don’t know the witch.

I do immediately think “Legends of”, but wouldn’t have a negative reaction to it, I think it’s awesome.

AuntieStella · 31/07/2018 06:48

I'm in my 50s, and there was a one in the Guides with me, so that's what I thought of first (not games it's appeared in since).

But it is a very well known game, so I expect a lot of people will think of that.

Lovely name, also Zerelda (Malory Towers)

NicoAndTheNiners · 31/07/2018 07:08

I’m also early 40s and have never heard of the witch thing.

FurryDice · 31/07/2018 07:13

Not witchy for me, but just very hard sounding.

FurryDice · 31/07/2018 07:14

Oh yeah, Terrahawks

FurryDice · 31/07/2018 07:17

OK, so being of that age I did watch Terrahawks back in the 80s but gad forgotten how misogynistic as fuck Zelda was. Fucking hell! The ld ladies are gross, right, male writers?

ToothTrauma · 31/07/2018 07:24

No, if it’s associated with anything now it’s the game. I love it! I love the game too Grin

newroundhere · 31/07/2018 07:25

I only know Aunt Zelda out of Elmer the Elephant....

Picknickers · 31/07/2018 23:20

Thank you. I worry about it sounding hard too. Any similar names please?

Zelda is definitely associated with the video game, I couldn't use it for that, it'd be like calling baby Yoshi or something. However I know there are people who find this name to be completely useable. Robin Williams' daughter is called Zelda.
