Not to be confused with crushed velvet sofa and annual holiday to Dubai names Grin (inspired by another poster).

Hit me with your upper class/well to do baby girl names that are still used today!

I am wealthy old money kid and only about 4 people I know still use their nn unless they’re with old school friends. Was at Cambridge too - so what?

So many people make that claim without personal experience - that’s why it pertains to myth.

MyBreadIsEggy · 31/07/2018 19:33

“Cressida” screams POSH to me

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 31/07/2018 19:34

Ptolemy, St John, Lettice and Clementine.

TatianaLarina · 31/07/2018 19:34

Orchid, you got my DD’s name.

pennycarbonara · 31/07/2018 19:35

Why not just have a look at lists of famous alumni of boarding schools? e.g. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Old_Etonians_born_in_the_20th_century
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downe_House_School#Notable_former_pupils
Or look at society pages in Tatler, Vogue etc and see what you like?

Slowtrain2dawn · 31/07/2018 19:36

Steve, for a girl

1Wanda1 · 31/07/2018 22:17

Returning to my first post, Tatiana, to paraphrase Margaret Thatcher: if you have to tell people you're "wealthy old money", you're not.

I met someone around Christmas time called Plum (her real name is Victoria), in fact I started a thread about it, as I thought it was so unusual. She is posh!

Echobelly · 01/08/2018 09:37

Cosmo
Jacinda
Lettuce

pennycarbonara · 01/08/2018 09:44

re Plum. I just looked up the fashion journalist Plum Sykes on Wikipedia, assuming she was an example - and found out her real name is Victoria and that Plum is a nickname.

Lettice not Lettuce.

Thatcher was not posh and well aware of that herself; she capitalised on being a grocer's daughter.

The above wasn't what she said, it was a was a paraphrase of a well-known quotation of hers: 'Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren't.'

1Wanda1 · 01/08/2018 12:29

"To paraphrase..."

pennycarbonara · 01/08/2018 12:31

Yeah, I was only repeating it because the subsequent poster appeared to have missed that bit.

Sessy19 · 01/08/2018 14:56

I know the family who patriarch is the Equerry to HRH, is that Upper class?

They’re all named for ancestors, Thomas, Rupert and Persephone (Percy).
