Evangeline Margot Lambert

Me and my husband have wildly different name preferences. I love Evangeline, he loves Margaret 🤢 so wondering whether Evangeline Margot sounds OK? As a baby / young child I will probably shorten her name to Eva, Evie or Evan (which I think is cute and edgy) but I love Evangeline as a beautiful adult name as its sophisticated.

I'd assume very religious with Evangeline. It's OK, but a little frilly. Margot is really nice.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 30/07/2018 20:05

Evangeline is lovely. I would use Lina/Lena as a nickname.

Margaret is awful. A very unfortunate name for a child.

I was planning on calling dd Evangeline but at the last minute decided it was a bit of a mouthful so gave her a short classic first name with Evangeline as a middle name. I have to be honest though, dd is 5 and I've since gone off the name Confused

Lightlover2018 · 30/07/2018 20:24

Whenever I see Margot written down I read it as Maggot! Sorry.

Crazyladee · 30/07/2018 20:26

Love Evangeline Margot. Go for it!

NastyCats · 30/07/2018 20:28

I know an Evangeline but she is always known as Evie which makes me think there wasn't much point actually naming her that. She is about 19 but hasn't reverted to using the full name.

I don't think it suggests you are especially religious as I would group it with the revival in more old-fashioned names. I actually like Evangeline but don't like the abbreviation Evie. There were two Evies in my dd's yr 6 class. I quite like Evan and have heard of other girls called that but it's so different from the feel of the name Evangeline.

Evangeline Margot is amazing! Please choose this it's beautiful! And I really love shortening to Evan, she will be so cool!

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 30/07/2018 21:31

If you call your baby by the name you prefer, whether the full name or the nickname, most people will follow your lead and call her what you do.
Margaret is awful imo. Love Evangeline Margot.

yikesanotherbooboo · 30/07/2018 22:00

Margot and Evangeline are very current and personally I would be a little put off by Eva/ Evie etc.
Margaret is a fab name imho... ahead of the curve, classical, international, lots of positive connotations and nicknames galore!around here it's all Daphne, Audrey, Jean etc and in my opinion Margaret is from the same era but more regal.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 30/07/2018 22:06

Margot is stunning. I really like Evangeline as well, but would also not necessarily be keen on Evie as a nn.

Lovely choices, OP.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 30/07/2018 22:12

Can I add that I really like Margaret as well!

Crunched · 30/07/2018 22:19

I agree Evan is nice and edgy for a girl. The only female I know of called Evan, is Evan Rachel Wood an American actor and musician who I know for playing one of the major characters in Westworld. She seems an admirable role model.

BertrandRussell · 30/07/2018 22:56

Evan is not "nice and edgy" for a girl, ffs. It is giving a girl a boy's name. What's nice and edgy about that?

Elambert1983 · 30/07/2018 23:28

I'm sure people use to think that about Jordan, Charlie etc plus her name would still be Evangeline so would be normal to shorten to Evan. It's not a common boys name as far as I know

Pingipinguin · 30/07/2018 23:32

Evan is horrible but Evangeline Margot is beautiful

TatianaLarina · 31/07/2018 09:39

Jordan is a moniker and Charlie has always been a dim for Charlotte.

Evan is not an obvious shortening of Evangeline unless you pronounced it I - as in igloo -vaan as in the start of Evangeline.

LoveInTokyo · 31/07/2018 11:06

I'm not sure why children's names need to be "edgy" now.

If your child is cool they will be cool whether even if they are called Graham or Doreen.

If your child is shy and awkward or just a bit square, they will not be made magically cooler by having an "edgy" name. In fact, the contrast between the child's personality and their name will probably just draw attention to it.

MikeUniformMike · 31/07/2018 11:20

I prefer Margaret to Margot, and Margot is a dimunitive of Margaret so could be a nn.
Don't like Evangeline at all. Margaret Eve is nice.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 31/07/2018 15:20

Personally I would choose Margot for a first name. Evangeline is too much and I'm not keen on nn Evie.

Elambert1983 · 31/07/2018 20:17

Hmmph back to the drawing board for me I think 🤔
