Is Emma old fashioned?

I really like Emma for a second baby (Not even conceived yet but day dreaming) I also like the NNs Em and Emmie. However is it a 90s? When I was growing up every class has 2 Emma’s but I haven’t heard it for new babies in ages!

I really like it. Very popular amongst my generation, but has more rarity value now.

Wishfulmakeupping · 28/07/2018 18:55

Agree that it’s classic and timeless

TroubledLichen · 28/07/2018 19:01

As a PP has mentioned, it’s really popular in the US. I volunteer with under 5s and hear it a lot.

My DD 13 is an Emma. We chose it as a classic name (that went well with her brother's) and she is the only Emma in her year group. It gets shortened to Em, Ems and we call her Emmie sometimes. She's not overly keen on her name (but then don't most teens go through that, 'Why did you call me that?' phase...??) I see/hear it as a strong no-nonsense name & I once taught an Emma who was strong minded & spirited and that kind of swayed my choice too. Wink

Icklepup · 28/07/2018 20:32

It's lovely.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/07/2018 21:45

Emma is a great name. Will never date. I really don't like Emmie though, seems very wet to me.

Is Emilee a younique version of Emily? Confused

Crunchymum · 28/07/2018 21:57

The Emma is our family was born very late 80's.

FuckingWaffleDoggy · 28/07/2018 21:58

Another Emma here checking in, from 1983.

I find it a very boring name.

RedDwarves · 28/07/2018 22:03

No, it's classic.

One of my best friends is an Emma. She was born in the early 90s. I know Emmas younger and older than her, though.

I prefer Emmeline, though, to be honest.

Vinorosso74 · 28/07/2018 22:08

I think it's a classic name and not old fashioned. I like it; I do like names ending with an "a" sound. I know Emmas of various ages so wouldn't thinking it belonging to a particular decade.

DramaAlpaca · 28/07/2018 22:34

It's lovely, my all time favourite girls' name. If I'd had a DD, she'd have been Emma. I like that it's international, that it's short, neat and easy to spell, and that it's a really old name that goes back to the Middle Ages.

Celestie · 29/07/2018 11:26

Yes it is old fashioned. Not in the sense of Elsie or Mabel, but there are an abundance of women in their 40's called Emma.

Nice name though.

Lighthouse12 · 29/07/2018 11:28

No way.
My niece who is 8 is an Emma. Sister in law who is 25 is Emma. A friend of mine just had a baby girl and named her Emma. Its a lovely name!

Serendipityme · 29/07/2018 11:30

There are 2 Emma's in the class of 6 year olds that I teach, so very much still a popular (but not overly popular) name. It's a classic. Also in school are a couple of Emmie's.

MariaMadita · 29/07/2018 12:04

I really like Emma. Emmie and Em are nice nicknames.

Pingipinguin · 29/07/2018 12:05

Classic but a tad boring- kind of like Anna or Grace

Yakadee · 29/07/2018 17:34

I love Emma! It's on my list x

holasoydora · 31/07/2018 19:47

It's a timeless classic. My great-grandmother's name, I love it. There is only one at my DD's primary school.

haribosmarties · 31/07/2018 19:49

I think its classic. Never really goes out of use although it does have moments of being more popular than it was.

MikeUniformMike · 31/07/2018 19:55

Emilee is awful.
Emma is a classic name. DC2 is Emma. She was one of many in her age group, always Emma Surname apart from at home, but the name isn't as common now.
I think it's lovely and have no regrets. DC2 is happy with it.

unadventuretime · 31/07/2018 20:04

It's a classic, I like it Smile

Namechangemum100 · 31/07/2018 20:09

It's classic and beautiful

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 31/07/2018 21:27

Timeless imo
