Ray, Aubrey, or something else?

Nearly 36 weeks pregnant and these are the only two names that we can vaguely agree on if we have a boy. We could potentially use my surname - lead singer of Pulp - but I'm not as keen on using it as my partner is. We're sorted for girls names; the difficulty there will be narrowing it down! I just don't feel like I love either Ray or Aubrey. OH loves Ray, that's the one he would definitely choose. Anyone got any more suggestions?

Ronnie, Silas, Luca

Ray is 100% an old man's name and I don't think it's on the cusp of becoming un-old fashioned like some names have.

Aubrey also a no from me.

I'm not convinced about your surname but I prefer it.

Cary?

coughingbean · 27/07/2018 17:27

My grandad was called Ray Aubrey.

I like both names (Aubrey was his surname)

Enidblyton1 · 27/07/2018 17:33

Was a bit confused for a moment and was about to say I really don’t like Cocker!
I’m not a huge fan of any of them tbh. Ray would be my preference, but with Raymond as full name.

Pascall · 27/07/2018 17:35

Ray is a great name.

Aubrey is awful.

KitchenFloor · 27/07/2018 17:36

I've not really heard of Aubrey, I'd have thought it was Audrey and it was a girl.

AnyaMoondial · 27/07/2018 17:37

I love Jarvis. It’s an amazing name.

zeeboo · 27/07/2018 17:41

I like both but love Aubrey!! What about Leonard/ Lenny?

daisypond · 27/07/2018 17:46

I quite like Aubrey - it's an old name but has been mentioned a few times on here. It's often used as a girl's name in the US, though, so there's possibly room for confusion over whether a boy or a girl, if that might bother you. Not sure about Ray - I think it would grow on me. it's a possibility, especially if short for Raymond.

Celestia26 · 27/07/2018 18:01

Jarvis is great as a first name. Don't like the other two sorry.

SleepWarrior · 27/07/2018 18:05

I love Ray. I like a lot Raymond too, but it's equally good as a standalone shortening.

Aubrey is nice enough, but I fear he grow tired of people thinking it was a girls name (I know it's not).

Other suggestions:

Gregor
Alban
Austin

Flamingosnbears · 27/07/2018 18:05

Aubrey is traditionally a boys name so I don't see anything wrong with that, Ray has a cool retro feel ablut it you might like Cole?...

IVflytrap · 27/07/2018 18:13

I like your surname more than Ray or Aubrey. Maybe use it as a middle name if you don't want it as a first?

Soren
Roland
Jasper
Stanley
Cory
Ellis
Leo

mycatplotsdeath · 27/07/2018 18:22

Jarvis is a fabulous name op

Scoleah · 27/07/2018 18:28

AubRay combine both!Grin

TroubledLichen · 27/07/2018 18:36

You can’t use Aubrey for a boy. I know it may have traditionally been a man’s name in about 1950 but it’s super popular in the US for girls (top 50 at least). Ray is nice but I much prefer Jarvis, I think it’s really cool!

Faceisamess · 27/07/2018 18:46

Jarvis is the best by far.

Stealing it for my list.

siteentrance · 27/07/2018 19:03

Aubrey has taken off in the UK for girls so I would avoid it now.

Baubletrouble43 · 27/07/2018 19:12

I love Jarvis! So cool!

kenandbarbie · 27/07/2018 19:13

I like Ray or Jarvis or Jarvis Ray.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/07/2018 19:26

I wanted to use Jarvis but my DH overruled me git I did overrule Cornelius on his list though, so we agreed on something else

Knittingteapot · 27/07/2018 21:25

Thanks for the suggestions and thoughts everyone. Not too bothered about it being used for girls as well - there's plenty of other names that are unisex and widely used.

I love Soren and Roland, but OH has vetoed both of them. Alban and Austin are too close to his name. Jasper is my parents' dog unfortunately! We have genuinely debated whether we can still use it or not! Grin

Interesting that Jarvis is going down well. We do like it, and it would be a good way of keeping my surname in the next generation. My only concern is introducing myself as 'knittingteapot Jarvis, and here's my baby Jarvis'.

Quite like Leonard, but not sure about Lenny/Len. Too Of Mice and Men for me!

Any other suggestions are gratefully received.

Balonz

SleepWarrior · 27/07/2018 22:00

Leo could be nn for Leonard

Raines100 · 27/07/2018 22:05

@Enidblyton1 I did the same. You can't call a baby Cocker! Grin

Sorry, OP, none of the names are to my taste. Ray is a boring old man, Aubrey is either pretentious or a girls name, and Jarvis isn't pleasant.

Travis? Curtis?
