Too old fashioned? Too different?

Our aim so far has been to find a 'classic, elegant, timeless' name. Rosalie is a family name which we hadn't thought of, but I've loved ever since it was suggested...

I love it! Very soft and beautiful without being babyish

littlecabbage · 26/07/2018 08:36

I've only ever known it as Rosalie. Was on my list too, but I've just completed my family of four boys! Lovely name, go for it. Could be Rosa for short?

TheLastMermaid · 26/07/2018 08:40

Agree with Rose-a-lee and that's from a beautiful, spirited old lady I used to know - so def not a new pronunciation. (named in 1920's/30's).

Loved her; love the name. V different to more popular Rosie's etc too IMO.

Monkeypuzzle32 · 26/07/2018 08:43

It’s a really pretty, timeless name.

Electrascoffee · 26/07/2018 08:46

My friend chose this for her dd. I think it's lovely.

Electrascoffee · 26/07/2018 08:47

'As a first and, it sounds a bit gypsy/traveller.'

What does that mean? Hmm

Canwejustrelaxnow · 26/07/2018 08:59

As a first and, it sounds a bit gypsy/traveller

From Gypsy Rose Lee I'd imagine.

DinoSn0re · 26/07/2018 09:02

We used it as a middle name, we’ve had lots of compliments on it.

We use the ‘Rose-a-lee’ pronounciation.

LoveInTokyo · 26/07/2018 09:08

I like it, and I love Rosa as a nickname.

Flowerqueensw · 26/07/2018 09:27

I love it and am thinking of something similar. But, do people on this thread know a lot of little ones called Rosa? I was considering it as a nickname and I wasn’t aware it was so popular.

daisypond · 26/07/2018 09:29

I like it.

Modwolvesrock · 26/07/2018 09:33

It makes me think of a character from 'Grimm' - she's a nice vessen, though, so I'd definitely use the name Smile

BevBrook · 26/07/2018 09:35

I think it is lovely. I love all the "Rose" names.
I have only ever heard it pronounced Ros-a-lee, like Rosamund, Rosalind, etc.

Canwejustrelaxnow · 26/07/2018 09:43

Flowerqueensw quite a few under the age of 5 round here. Its either Rosie, Rosa, or first name hyphenated with Rose or Mae/May. Probably the same as Evie was a few years ago.

Kool4katz · 26/07/2018 10:17

Friend with DD called Rosalie. I pronounce it Rose-a-lee but Scottish DH always pronounces it Roz-a-lee.

Quangot · 26/07/2018 10:21

I've only ever heard it pronounced Roz-a-lee.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/07/2018 10:22

I pronounce it like you OP, it's a very pretty name.
How about Rosalene, also lovely !

kaytee87 · 26/07/2018 10:30

I'm Scottish and say Rose-a-lee so think it's just a personal thing rather than regional.

TheGhostOfYou · 26/07/2018 11:02

I LOVE it and did want it for DD2.

TatianaLarina · 26/07/2018 12:10

Very pretty.

Katjolo · 26/07/2018 12:22

Pretty name. I like it.

MariaMadita · 26/07/2018 12:34

I personally prefer Rosa / Rose as a first name. But Rosalie is really lovely as well. :)

TatianaLarina · 26/07/2018 12:36

Rosa is a very nice dim.

StoatofDisarray · 26/07/2018 12:38

I love it. Brian Eno used it in a lovely song

Batteriesallgone · 26/07/2018 12:39

It’s lovely, and yes very popular, but I don’t see what’s wrong with that. It’s a classic. I would pronounce it Rose-a-lee unless told otherwise
