Imminently due with baby 3, which we think is a girl (didn’t ask at scan, but I saw the lines and certainly no other bits floating around down there!). I love the name Honey, which I wasn’t brave enough to use the last 2 times but this time round I just can’t think of anything else I want to use. My OH is not keen at all, but he hasn’t put forward any suggestions. Help!

I know this isn't what you asked but my all time favourite girl's name (that I didn't know of when I named dd, sadly) is Alba and I think Esme, Marnie and Alba sounds fab! (And avoids another -ee sounding name).

EllenJanethickerknickers · 25/07/2018 00:23

OP, I know a lovely girl aged about 14 called Honey. She is clever and kind and I like her a lot, despite the dislike I had for her name. It screams porn star. There are a wide variety of unusual names I come across working in a school but few as bad as Honey. There is an instant prejudice that I have had to get over to take the girl seriously. She's lucky that she's such a star!

This reflects badly on me, I know, but you did ask.

hels71 · 25/07/2018 06:38

I have a friend called Honey. As soon as she left home she went by her middle name ...

HJL2506 · 25/07/2018 07:06

One of my cats is called Honey and she is a little terror!!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 25/07/2018 07:18

It goes well with your other DC's names OP. I like it.

NastyCats · 25/07/2018 07:27

I knew a girl called Honey. She is 11 now and will be off to secondary school. She is petit, blonde and pretty like her mum so it's ok except I wonder whether people will make assumptions about her intelligence and capabilities based on her name.

I once came into contact with a girl named Fawn. She had the physique of a rugby player, which is fine, but didn't suit her name.

donquixotedelamancha · 25/07/2018 07:32

donqui Esme and Marnie are OP's children.

Doh. Well, OP seems like she's got a good sense of humour.

butlerswharf · 25/07/2018 07:35

Sex worker name

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 25/07/2018 07:41

I think it’s unfair to give names like that to babies who will one day be grown adult women. Yes it’s cute for a baby or a little girl, but a 30 year old? 50 year old? Can you imagine trying to do a professional job and be taken seriously with a name like that? It’s just mean.

Frankwindsor · 25/07/2018 07:54

I'm with the poster who suggested Dulcie, instead of Honey. Honey is, as others say, a stripper's name.

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 25/07/2018 07:57

Blush thank you ladies/gents and especially those discussing my existing children’s names Grin - I totally get that names are a personal thing so it’s fine some aren’t keen. I did meet a Cinderella once and thought it was a bit mean so maybe people will feel the same about meeting a Honey... I’ll cross it off the (very short... nothing else... list)

SwimSwim · 25/07/2018 08:03

I can imagine it could cause her problems trying to get a professional job in years to come. With unusual names come stereotypes and when all someone is seeing is a C.V. that's all they have.. wrong but it happens.

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 25/07/2018 08:04

Dulcie is nice, I’ll run it past the husband! I also like Pixie but I know that really is a guilty pleasure so won’t be going for that Wink

Honey is 100% Stripper, or Labrador. And what every cheesy American calls their partner. Really naff and she will hate you for it.

Nancy

THEsonofaBITCH · 25/07/2018 08:14

"Honoria" and shortened to Honey (means woman of honour)?

ludicrousmode · 25/07/2018 08:23

I love Marnie, but you can't have Marnie and Honey! (Also sounds a bit like honey and marmalade).... Use it as a mIddle name if you must!

villainousbroodmare · 25/07/2018 08:38

I've reset my password just to be able to sign in and help save your lovely daughter from being christened this bland, trashy and infantile word. Word, not even a name.

The thing is, you can call her Honey or Pixie to your heart's content as a family nickname. Just choose a real name as well, as you have for her sisters. She'll still be sweet.

Twooter · 25/07/2018 08:40

Honey is what you used to get called by any sleazy bloke trying it on in a club in the 90s.

Bringcoffee · 25/07/2018 08:42

I love it! Was one of our names if we had been having a girl. Sorry not much help in putting you off.

steppemum · 25/07/2018 08:47

Honey - nope, horrible for a child's name.

Think of the person she could be - strong, independent woman, and then think of the implications of being called Honey - porn start/pet name
To me it ranks alongside calling kids Angel and Princess, and Baby.
yuck.

Your other 2 girls names are lovely, find another name like those

RedDwarves · 25/07/2018 09:40

I would assume a Honey's parents neglected to consider the fact that she will one day be older than 5.

I would hate to be a Honey as an adult. It's utterly unprofessional sounding, and I would be embarrassed to hear someone call out my name.

waterlego6064 · 25/07/2018 09:49

I think Esme and Marnie are both lovely. Classic but not too common- Honey isn’t really in the same ‘league’ IMO. I think of it as a pet name rather than a proper name.

I like the suggestion upthread for Alba. I recently met a gorgeous baby Alba. Heidi was also suggested, which is a great name.

I am going to propose Astrid, for no other reason than I just really like it.

babyyorkie · 25/07/2018 09:57

I love Honey! I really wanted it for my DC but paired with our surname it was ridiculous. It reminds me off lovely Miss Honey off Matilda!

Bouncingbelle · 25/07/2018 10:02

Honey is lovely, until about the age of 3. Then it's appalling.

Esme & Marnie are fantastic, cool but classic, names. They deserve a sister called something like
Laurel
Zoe
Imogen
Xanthe

flumpybear · 25/07/2018 10:08

With a name like Honey I couldn't see her being a lawyer, doctor etc ... shop assistant or stripper!

Also with a name that Sounds too cutsie she'll end up with a 'proper name' that she'll make up so just give her a name instead
