I've got 16 days left of my pregnancy and hate every name possible.
OHs grandad passed away just as I found out I was pregnant so would like to use his name some how, he was Ian but OH not keen for Iana and doesn't know how to say Ianina so doesn't like that either.
Help??

Ianthe

Ian means "God is gracious" so you could honour grandad by giving your dd a first or middle name that means the same?
Seems like variants of Anne, Jane, Jean and Joan all mean God is Gracious.
Penelope Jean or Penelope Joan?
Anna Blair?

LesleyA · 22/07/2018 20:12

or Penelope Grace
I had to laugh. When I posted Juliette Ian I thought that's a bit awful really although I love Juliette so I could hardly get defensive with the 'please no' lol

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 22/07/2018 20:14

Grin Juliette is lovely although I prefer the spelling Juliet but not with Ian!

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 22/07/2018 20:18

As someone said above - Ian it's the female form of John. My dad is Ian. My daughter has one of her middle names after my dad - it's Jana (pronounced Yunna) - the Slavic form of Jane which is the feminine of John.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 22/07/2018 20:20

Ahhh - can't type!! Ian is the scottish form of John that should say!!!!

Myotherusernameisbest · 22/07/2018 20:24

Not to do with Ian but I do like the names Maeva (may-va) and Taoni (Tayoni)

NameChange30 · 22/07/2018 20:30

Feminine forms of Ian (from www.behindthename.com/name/ian/related)

ENGLISH: Genette, Jan, Janae, Jane, Janeka, Janel, Janele, Janella, Janelle, Janene, Janessa, Janet, Janetta, Janette, Janey, Janice, Janie, Janine, Janis, Janna, Jannah, Jannette, Jannine, Jayna, Jayne, Jaynie, Jean, Jeana, Jeane, Jeanette, Jeanie, Jeanine, Jeanna, Jeanne, Jeannette, Jeannie, Jeannine, Jeni, Jenna, Jenni, Jennie, Jenny, Jessalyn, Jessi, Jessie, Jessye, Jo, Joan, Joanie, Joann, Joanna, Joanne, Joetta, Joey, Johanna, Johna, Johnna, Jojo, Joleen, Jolene, Jonelle, Jonette, Joni, Jonie, Nena, Netta, Nettie, Nina, Seanna, Shauna, Shavonne, Shawna, Sheena, Sheenagh, Shena, Shevaun, Shevon

I feel so excited at the prospect of contributing to naming a baby, (although doing somewhat dismally ha ha) going to keep trying. I like Penelope but dont like the diminutives.

LesleyA · 22/07/2018 20:41

on one mum forum discussing Penelope the person named their baby Penelope May (in honour of a loved one born in May). Any chance this is the case with the grandad. Another was Penelope Cate which I think sounds gorgeous. Diminutives for Penelope were Poppy and Pippa which I like both.
Yes Juliet is a lovely spelling :) GreatDuckCookery

moredoll · 23/07/2018 01:42

Joanna
Or could you name her after a woman your OH's grandad really admired?

Condragulations · 23/07/2018 09:37

I know you said you don’t like it but someone suggested Isla Blair and I think that’s so beautiful!
As others have said like “Eye-la Blair”

Flamingosnbears · 23/07/2018 09:57

Blair is great as a first name if you want to incorporate your grandfather's name Ian is a variant from John so you could go :

Blair Joan
Blair Joanna
Blair Ianna

TatianaLarina · 23/07/2018 11:37

Can’t stand Penelope personally.

Don’t mind Blair but I don’t think it goes that well with your other choices which are more classic.

Amelia is a very pretty name despite its popularity.

I like Iona and think it’s good tribute to Ian. What about Inès?

NameChange30 · 23/07/2018 12:30

Iona and Ines are both lovely names
