Saorise or something else?

Baby girl is due in less than 2 weeks. We both like Saorise but not sure if it's the right name. Only other name we can agree on is Jessica but it's in the top 10 I think although I've not yet met a little Jessica. Middle name will be Ann. I would like a Scottish name but it isn't a must.

Alternative - Sorcha is a Gaelic name.

It's a lovely name but if you're in the UK then virtually no one will be able to pronounce it. Take it from me that it's a pain in the butt when no one can say, spell or remember your name! I would go with Jessica

Do you mean the Irish name? You’ve spelled it wrong if so - it’s Saoirse. If it’s another name entirely, my apologies!

Saoirse Ann is lovely, but yep, pronunciation can be an issue (even in Ireland).

And as a point of public information, as a pp has mentioned another lovely name, Sorcha, this is pronounced ‘SURR’kuh with the final syllable a schwa, and not SORE-sha (which is the Irish for George).

I have one! We pronounce it Seer-aha. I still love it and have never regretted it. I think it's becoming more well known in the UK, I'm in Scotland and we have very few issues.

Matutinal, I have seen Sorcha pronounced both ways - 'Surra-kah' and 'Sore-sha'. I grew up in Ireland and knew examples of both versions. The Irish for George is a bit different - 'shore-shah'

“Sore-sha” for Sorcha is just wrong though, since “ch” in Irish is always a hard sound.

I only know it pronounce seer-sha rather than sare-sha. I thinks it's becoming quickly more well known in the UK now. There is an actress with the name which is helping.

Saorsa is the Scottish Gaelic version, meaning freedom/liberty. Pronounced like sir-sha/ sore-sha depending on where you’re from.
