Are these sister names OK?

My DD1 is Maeve. She was named after our amazing midwife, and we are not Irish at all so I'm not looking for an Irish name. I am English, and my husband is half-Indian, half Canadian, but we both live and grew up in the UK.

My husband had a lovely great aunt named Nina whom he wants to honour. I do like the name, but my biggest hang-up is that it does not "go" with Maeve. I do not know why I care about this so much! My husband thinks it's a silly reason not to use a family name, especially as our family doesn't really "match" anyway! But it's picking at me.

Any thoughts? Also, now I know I'm really picking, but my name is Nicola, sometimes Nikki -- that's not too close to Nina is it to be confusing, right?

I think they are good together.

happymummy12345 · 16/07/2018 19:05

I don't understand why people want matching names. What's the point

MikeUniformMike · 16/07/2018 19:27

To show that they're a sibset.
I think it's a bit naff but I wouldn't give completely different names (e.g. Cressida and Ellie-Mae or Agamemnon and Wayne)

DramaAlpaca · 16/07/2018 19:30

Nina & Maeve are very nice together.

RavenWings · 16/07/2018 19:41

They're completely fine together.
Agamemnon and Wayne Grin

GetToFuck · 16/07/2018 19:43

OP, I work with a bloke called Rocco who has a brother named Rollo.

Honestly, Maeve and Nina are fine!

iamawagama · 16/07/2018 19:44

Love the name Nina. Do it!

Dontfartbackinanger · 16/07/2018 19:49

Tarquin and Steve Grin

They are both lovely OP. You have great taste!

DramaAlpaca · 16/07/2018 20:12

HumpHumpWhale I also think of Nina as having an Irish sort of sound because of the town called Nenagh Grin

Mamabear4180 · 16/07/2018 20:18

It goes fine! Both a bit different yet familiar!Do you like it enough? If not don't be pressured but if you do I think they make lovely sister names!

Eenymeeny123 · 16/07/2018 20:25

I'm irish and I think Maeve and Nina go lovely together, it's a lovely touch to name her after someone you care about. I also think Niamh(Neeve) would work well and sound similar to Nina.

FogCutter · 16/07/2018 20:31

Both beautiful names.

And sound great together- I'm not a fan of matchy-matchy names.

Agamemnon and Wayne 😂

Terriblydifficult · 16/07/2018 20:34

They sound very good together.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 16/07/2018 20:51

Re previous comments, when people say do names match? they mean do they harmonise, not like siblings named Barry and Jonquil Confused

I like the choices OP and don't think there's any conflict with Nicola at all.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 16/07/2018 20:51

Cross posted Blush

Kittykatmacbill · 16/07/2018 22:24

I love Agamemnon and Wayne May try and have twins just so I can use them.

I would say that maeve and Nina do go together, classic and but not over used and easy to spell! Go for it!

BentOutOfShape · 16/07/2018 22:56

I see Nina in a group with Krystal, Demi, Lacy, Lexi.

I don't.

I think the names go together well. Not that it matters. I think they are nice names

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 19/07/2018 09:56

Maeve and Nina sound really great together ! 😄

OverTheHedgeHammy · 19/07/2018 09:59

I think they match as they are similar in their shortness. It would be weirder to have something like Maeve and Alexandrina or Maeve and Anastasia.

It's a Russian name, but one of the few Russian names that doesn't have a proper and diminutive form.

strawberrypenguin · 19/07/2018 10:56

I think they sound fine together! They have a similar 'feel' to me. Lovely names too

StrawberryCat · 19/07/2018 11:03

Maeve and Nina are two of my favourite names and go well together! I wouldn't see Nicola as being too close either.

TwinkleToes86 · 19/07/2018 13:18

They sound great together! Go for it. And I definitely don’t think Nina is too similar to your name.
