What do you think of it?
We don't know the sex yet but are considering Dakota for both.

Icklepup · 16/07/2018 12:02

I don't like it at all

KateGrey · 16/07/2018 12:04

Would you be naming them after the song, plane or hotel? Personally it’s a no from me.

Tumilnaughts · 16/07/2018 12:04

I knew a few girls names Dakota back in the US when I was growing up. Never met a boy with the name but I don't see why not. It's a nice name.

HeyDolly · 16/07/2018 12:34

Don’t like it at all, especially not for a boy.

AtticaRose · 16/07/2018 12:37

I personally wouldn't - afaik it's a Native American tribe as well as the names of the states. I wouldn't use that kind of name without links to the area.

blackbirdbluebottle · 16/07/2018 12:45

Dakota is a lovely name, very popular in America

greendale17 · 16/07/2018 12:48

Awful name, definitely not suitable for a boy

Cosmoa · 16/07/2018 12:59

I know both a boy and girl Dakota. I've always loved the name!

imbluedabberdedabberdi · 16/07/2018 13:00

Love it! More for a girl than a boy though

RaininSummer · 16/07/2018 13:07

I think it is a little odd out of any context such as US roots etc.

Glaciferous · 16/07/2018 13:07

Awful under any circumstances for a girl, and worse for a boy.

MikeUniformMike · 16/07/2018 13:10

Terrible idea.

Racecardriver · 16/07/2018 13:28

I think it is lovely but I have never been to dokota and would feel weird naming my child after a place I have never been. Also love nebraska and arkensaw (how the gell Dow you spell that) not not as names for people. Just love the sound.

banannabreadforme · 16/07/2018 13:29

It's a popular girls name in America. I wouldn't choose it for a boy

OrdinaryGirl · 16/07/2018 13:44

@upsideup what's your connection to Dakota? If there isn't one, then possibly be prepared for a lot of 🤨 / Confused when you're asked that question eleventy billion times, as you surely will be.
If you do have a connection to Dakota, then I reckon it's a lovely choice. 💗

upsideup · 16/07/2018 14:39

Me and DH both spent 10 years living in america which is where we met and probably first heard the name. No paticular connection to though, we just love the name.
I prefer it for a girl, DH prefers it for a boy.

My friends dd is Dakota, named after the song. I like it on her, but not sure I would choose it myself iyswim

ZebraKid71 · 16/07/2018 15:35

I like it, I grew up in the states though where it is a lot more common... I think the negative reaction from the uk is due to people being familiar with our as a place, rather than a name.
