Too Scottish for a non Scot?

Really struggling with boys names. One I love dh has vetoed as another family member has it. We both quite like Robbie (Robert on BC) then they could be bobby or even Bert/Bertie. The problem is our surname is Norwegian and the first half is pronounced (not spelt) burns. So their name would be Robbie Burnssomething. They would have a middle name, but Is this too Scottish given that we have no Scottish heritage?

Are you thinking of Robert burns the poet? Scots call him Rabbie, I’ve never heard him called Robbie so wouldn’t make the connection at all, I think it’s fine.

You don’t need to have a heritage to use a name and that sound quite lovely.

I’m Scottish and will never use Scottish names, so I share my heritage name use to you to enjoy, go ahead and choose a name you love:)

We live in Scotland and one of our favourite names for a future child is Norwegian so if you've got a problem so have I...

I work with a Robbie Burnside but have never noticed until their thread! So it wouldn't worry about it to be honest.

It would put me off tbh.

Yes I was thinking of Robert Burns. Thanks all that makes me feel much better. Think I was overthinking it!
