I love the name. If we had a boy, we'd have seriously considered it. It's a name I've seen used in Ireland and Scotland. If you love it, go for it!

StrawberryCat · 06/07/2018 04:26

It was on my list but i had a girl. I love it! My slight reservation is the shortening to 'Aid' but it's not too offensive so i would have still been keen!

SleepWarrior · 06/07/2018 04:41

I like it.

I've seen it lumped it with Jayden, Hayden, Kaden names on here quite a few times but don't think it has the same vibe to it at all (other than rhyming!). Not that there's anything terrible about those either, just not my cup of tea whereas Aidan is.

qumquat · 06/07/2018 08:10

I love it. A good Northumbrian name!

BlueChampagne · 06/07/2018 14:02

I am biased because I have one. So far (and he's nearly 11) he has always been Aidan, not Aid or Aidy. You'll have to grit your teeth when people spell it Aiden (and any other variants) though.

SquidgyMcPidgy · 06/07/2018 14:04

Love it. It was on our shortlist too

ElinorCadwaller · 06/07/2018 14:05

Love it. It's a really old name but fits well in the here and now-no 'middle earth' vibes.

LovelyBranches · 06/07/2018 14:07

I like it but it is absolutely linked to Jayden, Kaiden and Hayden now and has become really quite popular. I wouldn’t use it now.

SoddingUnicorns · 06/07/2018 14:11

I’m biased because I have one but I love it. Be aware of people spelling it in ridiculous ways though, or even just Aiden.

And ours is an Aidy rather than an Aid.

Pisses me off when it’s lumped in with Jayden, Cayden, Braden etc. It’s a real name, there’s a saint and everything!

(Actually the story of St Aidan is quite cool even though I’m an atheist)

Racecardriver · 06/07/2018 14:16

I like it a lot.

Moonkissedlegs · 06/07/2018 14:20

Yes I really like it. And it's definitely not linked with Jayden, Kayden etc!

SoddingUnicorns · 06/07/2018 14:22

I have to say our Aidan’s best friend is a Cayden I sound ridiculous walking up the road with both of them Grin but only cos they rhyme.

Sabistick · 06/07/2018 14:23

Yeah good name, only met one growing up and he was cool, so he's go for it!

Sessy19 · 06/07/2018 16:05

I really love the name actually. It’s quite cool.

Unfortunately, in my area, it’s become a bit of a chavvy name. It’s also very popular in the Irish traveller community near me, which is understandable since it’s a strong Irish name, but comes with some unfavourable (and sometimes unfair) connotations. Along with lots of lovely Irish boys names 😔

DramaAlpaca · 06/07/2018 16:06

I like it very much.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 06/07/2018 16:09

Love it!

pennycarbonara · 06/07/2018 21:53

Depends on area. In the NE, Ireland and some bits of Scotland it's very established and classic but in other areas it could be pigeonholed by class. (But not so badly I don't think that it would still matter as an adult.)
