Baby names that DH might like

So me and DH have just discovered we are having a girl, we have also discovered that we like very few of the same names.

I like names that are probably a bit more uncommon. I love Persephone, Seraphina, Theodora etc. He was pretty horrified when I made these suggestions and decided he didn’t like ‘long’ names, I wouldn’t exactly class them as long.

The only names we can agree on so far are Iris, Ivy and Hazel. Can anyone suggest anything else similar he may like?

He also vetoed Eloise and IMO unhelpfully suggested Willow and Piper which no offence intended but I find awful.

The annoying thing is before we found out we started with boys names and we were pretty much in agreement on all names had a perfect one picked.

Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to help.

Anna - I know two folk with an Anna and a Felix as it happens!

Not long
Not a million miles from Alba
The most classic name you can think of
Just really pretty and simple but very elegant and European.

LovelyBranches · 29/06/2018 19:42

You mentioned liking Theodora, but your DH not liking long names. How about Thea

Have to say though that I dislike Alba- it's too much like Albie/Albert - just no.

If he really has totally discounted ALL the names suggested above, which are a huge and varied selection, but he loves Alba which is pretty out there really - then I suspect you don't have a 'my DH hates all names' problem, you have a 'my DH wants his own way' problem. It's just that you both happened to agree on Felix.

Take Alba completely off the table and tell him he has to start compromising. Tell him to make a top 20.

Second renaming the cat!

I have noticed that many men find it very hard to like names where they weren't aware of anyone with it (in real life or fiction), before it is suggested- it's so often their name list is a combination of celeb names, book characters and what sounds like the school register from 1995.... Grin

Pick a name you like, find a good book character with it, give him the book...

Or rename the cat. Honestly, it'll be an amusing family story!

TruffleShuffles · 29/06/2018 20:05

That is exactly what he says his issue is! He said if he doesn’t know someone with that exact name then to him it isn’t a name, this is clearly where our issue lies.

I think we may have to rename the cat, she knows what her name is but like I assume most cats pointedly ignores us when we use it anyway.

Violet's a fad name. It's having a huge 'moment' and will date her to within roughly 5 years.

Another vote for Anna here. Or I absolutely loved a PP's suggestion of Allonia. If I were having another one I'd use it. :)

grasspigeons · 29/06/2018 20:12

I think greek but shorter looking at your lists

Clio, Thalia, Artemis, Leto, Helen

or something like Audrey, Wren, ELiza

LuMarie · 29/06/2018 20:18

I'm curious about what names you classify as "long" if not Persephone and Seraphina?

MollyHuaCha · 29/06/2018 21:09

Penelope
Alexandra
Jennifer

LongDivision · 29/06/2018 21:32

Jane

CoffeeOrSleep · 29/06/2018 21:35

You need to get him watching some films/reading some books with characters with the names you like then !

CoffeeOrSleep · 29/06/2018 21:46

Other names like Violet - (which feels a bit 'Victorian heroine' without sounding too crazy now, and also likely he's heard of someone with the name at some point)
Veronica
Lydia
Eloide
Charlotte
Heather
Esther
Agatha
Scarlett
Edwina
Thelma
Sabrina

Any help? (Still think rename the cat)

TatianaLarina · 29/06/2018 22:38
