DP and I have different ideas on names and he's very stubborn! Now he has his heart set on Sophia and although it's a lovely pretty name and I do like it, it's not the name I pictured for our girl and would prefer it as a middle name. I feel like I'm settling if we go with Sophia.

Other names he likes I really dislike and vice versa, so this is the only name so far that one of us doesn't hate. Do I just go with it and learn to love it? DP also doesn't really try to bond with the baby yet (ie talking to the bump, not interested in baby clothes/items) so I like that this way he may feel more involved.

I feel like otherwise we'll have a nameless baby!

I was in a similar situation when I found out I was expecting both my girls, I preferred classic names whereas my DH liked non cutesy modern names. I went with his choice as I felt I already had a strong bond to the baby and it seemed important to him. I have to say and as my girls get older the names suit them more and more, my eldest daughter Caitlin gets called Cait by family and goes by Cat to her friends. I think Sophia is definitely a grower! It’s important you think about how the name would fit a teenager/ young lady as my DH pointed out ( he was right about that one Grin)

How long have you got to go?

I don’t think you should feel like you have to “settle” on your baby’s name... compromise, yes, but not concede all naming rights to him, and especially not because he doesn’t seem to be bonding with the baby yet.

What kind of names have you suggested that he’s vetoed and vice versa? Maybe you’ll get some new suggestions on here.

Just realised there's another thread today with same name, whoopsie.

Thanks both

@ella Exactly, especially as this is a surprise baby I like the thought that him 'naming' her will help him have an attachment to her already. It's a beautiful name and I think could work for all ages. There's just something about it that I can't imagine my own child with this name!

@susannah I'm 27 + 3 so about 3 months left. We've kind of stopped the discussion though but I may reopen it tonight. I'm just worried we'll get to the birth and have no one name that we both love.
I like pretty but strong (imo) names:
Olive
Cora
Frankie
Heidi

He likes:
Charlotte
Annabel
Nia (Welsh)
Amber
