Love it! (but only as a diminutive of Frederick)

Sukitaketwo · 24/06/2018 23:15

I quite like it as a shortened version of Alfred (but I think that's where alfie comes from!!)

I like it short for Frederick, Alfred or Wilfred.

DramaAlpaca · 25/06/2018 01:27

Hate it. Sorry! But it's heaps better than Alfie.

Peachbubble · 25/06/2018 06:26

I like it, but Alfred, Frederick etc as their full name

Paranoixia · 25/06/2018 07:30

Alfred/Frederick - fine.

Fred by itself - no.

Sukitaketwo · 25/06/2018 07:37

Ok, so if you like it, don't like it- why?

Great as a nickname for Frederick, Wilfred or Alfred.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 25/06/2018 08:10

Fred West.

JessambardKingdomBrunel · 25/06/2018 08:31

Don't like it because
A) Fred West
B) It's a nickname, not a proper name. It would be like calling a child Ed. It's too short, boring and silly.

Needmoresleeep · 25/06/2018 09:01

If you also like Alfred. Call him Alfred and use Fred as a nickname Smile

We have a Ted (Theodore). We mainly call him Ted though, never Theodore.

We also have a Wilfred. We don't call him Fred though as Ted and Fred sounds way too silly!

MoreAndLess · 25/06/2018 09:22

It's not my favourite. I think of Fred West.

MikeUniformMike · 25/06/2018 10:04

Don't like it. Alfie is a dog's name. Frederick and Alfred are not names I like.

heateallthebuns · 25/06/2018 15:39

I love the name Fred!
