I like the name Sophia / Sofia. Which spelling do you like best? Is it likely to become Sophie which I'm not so keen on?

OP posts:

I like both - I would maybe expect Sofia to have Italian/Spanish connections, but it's still an established spelling. Might have to correct people more on spelling if you go for that one.

I don't think people would nn to Sophie, but you're likely to get Soph or Fi or something.

TheNumberfaker · 21/06/2018 16:55

Sofia is the Spanish/ Italian version so go for Sophia.

PaddyF0dder · 21/06/2018 16:56

Sophia is the “normal” spelling.

Sofia will lead to a lifetime of her having to spell her name out to others. Don’t do that to her.

MikeUniformMike · 21/06/2018 17:12

It will end up being Sophie/Soph/Sofa etc. Lovely name but very popular. I would pronounce it Sof-eye-ah but I think Sof-ee-a is more common now.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 21/06/2018 17:51

I'd say Sophia

I like ph. I also like zofia (pronounced Sophia) which is better than Sofia in my opinion. It won't get shortened to Sophie as that is a popular name in its own right. You might get soph though.

MariaMadita · 21/06/2018 18:04

Both are nice :)

Sofia looks a bit stronger and sleeker in my personal opinion. But Sophia is the more common / established spelling in the UK...

I'd say Sophia. Unless you have a Spanish/Italian/Latin family background.

daisypond · 21/06/2018 19:09

Sophia, unless you've got Spanish/Italian connections. I'd pronounce it as Soph-eye-a.

implantsandaDyson · 21/06/2018 19:38

I have a teen Sofia - the only thing it's ever been shortened to is Fia and that's mainly by me. She's never had a big issue with misspelling, the odd time in primary school but it was rarely done twice Grin.

SnookieSnooks · 21/06/2018 20:00

Sophia. I think most people in this country will assume this is the spelling.

booniloo · 21/06/2018 22:26

Spanish/Italian heritage- Sofia
Otherwise- Sophia.

Paranoixia · 21/06/2018 22:33

I don't think it would get abbreviated to Sophie - they're two very different names.

The Sofias/Sophias I know have all been nicknamed 'Soff', to rhyme with "cough", rather than "loaf"

MollyHuaCha · 21/06/2018 22:56
