What are your thoughts on Wilberforce and Wilbur for a boy?

Don't like them - it's what you call a teddy bear.

They will also be called Will all the time

00100001 · 18/06/2018 13:59

and then the inevitable of people trying to call him William when people only know him as Will.

Justmuddlingalong · 18/06/2018 13:59

Sorry, I don't like either. However, I'm just someone random on the internet, so my opinion means diddly squat.

Wilbur definitely, he isn't a unit of energy

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 18/06/2018 14:00

Poor bairn......

Shadow666 · 18/06/2018 14:01

Are you a Mr Ed fan? I used to love that programme.

I would never get tired of calling "Wilbur".

So, definitely Wilbur!

Wilbur I like and considered myself but it was struck off the list when the fifth person said it made them think of the pig from Charlotte’s web.
Wilberforce I think is way too much, but if you like it that’s all that matters. It could easily shorten to Wilber/Will.

SnowGoArea · 18/06/2018 14:02

Wilbur is nice.

Racecardriver · 18/06/2018 14:02

Wilbur is a name for an animal. Willberforce is too well known as a last name. It's like calling your kid Churchill.

BackforGood · 18/06/2018 14:08

I've only come across Wilberforce as a surname, so certainly don't like it as a first name.

Wilbur isn't to my taste at all. I suspect he will go by 'Will and then everyone will assume he is a William, as pp said.

MariaMadita · 18/06/2018 14:51

Wilbur. Or Wilbert :)

lynmilne65 · 18/06/2018 15:33

Dear God !

HeyDolly · 18/06/2018 15:40

Wilbur is OK. Wilberforce is awful imo.
I prefer Wilfred.

Susannach · 18/06/2018 15:55

I like Wilbur, but Wilberforce is waayyyy too much! Willoughby if you absolutely must.

Flamingosnbears · 18/06/2018 15:58

Wilbur yes, Wilberforce?... No

villainousbroodmare · 18/06/2018 16:00

I think OP just likes to debate names. Neither, imo. Unless naming pets in which case go the whole hog with Wilberforce.

lifechangesforever · 18/06/2018 16:14

I have never heard of 'Wilberforce' in my life! I don't like Wilbur either.

William is much nicer.

anotherangel2 · 18/06/2018 16:15

Wilberforce is a surname. It is the name of a prominent anti slavery campaigner from Hull.

MadMags · 18/06/2018 16:17

😂😂😂

MariaMadita · 18/06/2018 16:26

I think OP just likes to debate names

So do I. I sometimes wish people asked about named like Vercingetorix, Iustinian, Filumena etc... This board would be so interesting.

(But it's not like we're considering names like that either... Even the more uncommon names on our list are still rather tame, tbh)

Jasmina456 · 18/06/2018 19:06

Definitely not Wilberforce, poor child!

Wilbur is ok. Still prefer William though.

MrsClutterworth · 18/06/2018 19:15

Wilberforce 😂😂😂 I'm sorry, but that is awful! I'd burst out laughing if someone told me that was their name.

LucyJ61 · 18/06/2018 19:40

Wilbur is lovely
