Thoughts on Keturah? Do you know any? Nickname ideas?

It's a lovely name and very regal. I think that people who confer with the drugs name wouldn't be people that I'd have in my circle of friends anyway or who'd be introduced to my child. If you have any Christian or Jewish links, you'll notice that it is a respectable/sensible and authoritative name.

Well done for not choosing one of the soppy top 5 names.

MVLipwig · 18/06/2018 20:10

No matter your circle of friends people will know what Ket and Ketty mean, and they’re the inevitable nicknames. Don’t saddle your child with that

IVflytrap · 18/06/2018 20:14

@BarbaraOcumbungles

I was serious. Hmm I've never once heard "ketty" before, despite knowing people who partake. It's entirely possible for other people to not know the exact same references you do...

resignedtoresigning · 18/06/2018 20:17

Sounds like an anaesthetic to me!

MariaMadita · 18/06/2018 20:18

people will know what Ket and Ketty means

I really don't think that matters (too much).

Kettle or Rarah would be cute nns as well. (Or Kitty...)

mammmamia · 18/06/2018 20:20

It’s really not nice sorry and there are so many other beautiful biblical / OT names you could choose.

TeaAddict235 · 18/06/2018 20:21

But not every name gets shortened. Keturah also one of those names which are easily found in other countries and languages (like Hannah, Andrea, Lydia etc), you can't just think locally about the uk. She can stay Keturah without any problems at all.

RedDwarves · 18/06/2018 21:09

No a fan. Sounds like an anime character.

Prefer Keziah.

Tonicwaterandgin · 18/06/2018 21:15

The Keturah I know is just Keturah to all her friends and family, she's never been shortened/had a nn.
For someone who asked, rather than Ket to rhyme with let it's more of a short "cuh" sound so its more like cuh-tour-ah. No Ketamine connotations at all though I still don't particularly like it.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 18/06/2018 21:16

I'm not sure. Completely honestly, it sounds like you've scoured the Baby Names book for a biblical name that no-one's using at the moment.

It also does sound a little bit medicinal. I think there are much better names out there.

Oh don't be so sanctimonious. My kids go to a very posh, uber academic private school, and my friends are from professional circles, and they still all know what ket is!

Jasmina456 · 18/06/2018 21:19

They have drugs education lessons in year 8, and were taught about all the different illegal drugs, their side effects, and different names. Ket definitely came up!

It's my middle name after my great grandmother. Not sure I'd like it as my first name though. My kids and husband 'shorten' it to Ketchup!

Ohyesiam · 18/06/2018 21:27

Sounds like a product name to me.

EstrellaDamn · 18/06/2018 21:28

Kettle!?

mumofketurah · 18/06/2018 21:42

Obviously biased as DD3 is Keturah. She does get called Kitty sometimes and as a toddler she called herself Turah which I thought was cute. The older she gets the more she is using her full name. I love the meaning and I think it's s name that works on all ages. My DD3 was 1 of 4 born in the same year
We have never had any negative comments to our face. She has never been called Ketchup or make any reference to Ketamine. Sometimes the origin and spelling do need to be explained but only once. I understand not everyone will love it but at least it makes her memorable. Most importantly she loves her name
Interesting that a lot of people have suggested Keziah as that is DD2 so they must go together more than I realised
If you love it, do it

MsMotherOfDragons · 18/06/2018 22:49

I wouldn't know how to pronounce it (and I'm sure many people would have the same reaction).

Apart from that, I know it's a matter of taste but I'm not overly keen on it.

TeaAddict235 · 19/06/2018 11:09

@Jasmina456 huh? It's all a bit out of hand isn't it? We all have different opinions and different outlooks on life.

That your kids go to "a very posh, uber academic private school" is neither here nor there.

And for the record I went to private school and loved it! I was and still am highly academic, and have a PhD from a highly selective RG and a business and and and should I go on??? Like I said, certain people probably wouldn't be in my social circles Wink you brought it on yourself

MariaMadita · 19/06/2018 12:20

*EstellaDamn

Why not?

Ketchup would be cute as well imo ;)

usedtobeboss · 19/06/2018 12:30

Old family name on my mum's side too, but not used for at least 3 generations. I think I'd always thought it was Katurah - and therefore could have had Kate as nickname / shortened version. Is that a possibility?

pinkmagic1 · 19/06/2018 12:38

I really like it. Unusual and different, without being to far out there. I personally wouldn't make the connection to the drug.
I also love Kezia, which has already been mentioned. Also Kenza, which is of Arabic origin.

RaininSummer · 19/06/2018 12:52

Never seen that name before. Not wild about it. Sounds quite harsh.

eurgh · 19/06/2018 13:51

@TeaAddict235 plenty of people know about ket without doing it so it's amusing that you wouldn't associate with anyone who even mentions the word 😂

MariaMadita · 19/06/2018 14:18

Knowing about Ket =/= automatically associating it with the name Keturah (or a person named Keturah)
