Phoenix for a boy??

Not me - my friend has just called her newborn son Phoenix. I'm pretty shocked, I thought she would go for a traditional name. She's also previously been very set on names that can't be shortened, but it's their choice and as long as they're happy....

I'm just curious as to what the general consensus is??

I've always loved the name! I knew a few called Phoenix Smile

Octopeppa · 07/06/2018 21:03

I like it.

Not my style but I've heard much worse.

I wouldn't use it but I like it.

IVflytrap · 07/06/2018 22:36

It's OK.

The only Phoenix I know is a girl. Nickname Phee.

I always think of it as a girls name (Melanie Brown's DD is Phoenix) but I quite like it for a boy.

Cadencia - that's exactly what I thought about shortening it! He's going to end up as Fee or Nix. But the parents are insisting it won't be shortened. Ah, well. As long as they're happy :)

It's kind of unisex I think, but it's more common for boys in the UK and has been for the last 20 years (before which it was almost never a name anyway).

I think it's fairly easy not to shorten it. Just like Felix's most common nickname would also be Fee, but most people just call Felixes Felix.
