DH name pronunciation

I am well aware of regional dialect etc so for context DH and I grew up in the same area, went to the same school and sixth form, we did go to different Uni's. My favourite girl's name is Tabitha, DH says he likes it best out of our list too but incessantly pronounces it Tabiffuh , I've explained it's a th not a f, but he hasn't said it properly once yet. It's not a complex name, and he says this , that and the other not fis, fat and fe ofer. I feel like I have to give up on my favourite name because he's too lazy to say it properly.

That would put me off to be honest. My OH is the same but with H's. We have Hannah and Helena on our girls list but he always says them as Anna and Elena grrrrr so I doubt we will end up using them

RosieCotton · 03/06/2018 19:42

If I knew my husband said I Zack instead of i sack I'd never of used it as a name. I tell him every day its an S not a Z but he seems to not understand. Either that or he just enjoys angering me. Its been 5 years and he still says Z :(

I wouldn't use a name that DH said wrong. Trust me it will irritate you no end. Xxx

mmmmmchocolate · 03/06/2018 19:43

We had this, DH pronounced Beth as Beff. I wasn’t having a Beff so we named her something else Hmm

YearOfYouRemember · 03/06/2018 19:44

I can't hear a difference with Z or S Confused.

daisypond · 03/06/2018 19:50

It would annoy me, too, to be honest. Although they're written the same, the "th" sound in Tabitha is a different sound to the "th" at the beginning of "this" or "that", "the" or "other", so the fact that he can say those words isn't relevant. Can he say "think" or "birthday" or "south", for example, with a "th" sound at the end? Can he hear the difference?

daisypond · 03/06/2018 19:53

Isaac is pronounced with a Z sound, isn't it?

Messalena · 03/06/2018 19:56

It’s definitely I-zack, isn’t it? Confused

This would bother me too. How about Jemima, Matilda or Louisa?

DappledThings · 03/06/2018 19:57

I'd pronounce Isaac with a Z sound too

EdWinchester · 03/06/2018 19:58

What is wrong with him? This would drive me nuts.

TaggieRR · 03/06/2018 19:59

Isaac does have a Z sound surely? Tabiffuh would drive me crackers. Sorry OP

elQuintoConyo · 03/06/2018 20:01

Tell me you've taken Ethan off your boys list Grin

I wouldn't give a baby a name one of us couldn't pronounce. Where we live Felix (to me feel-ix) would be pronounced fell-ix and i knew 9/10 i'd balls it up! So we named him something else.

lostfrequencies · 03/06/2018 20:03

My husband is the same, not regional just can't annunciate "th". It put me off choosing a few of the names I liked!

frasier · 03/06/2018 20:03

Oh it would put me off also Sad

The ILs come from a place with an accent I have grown to hate (purely because of them and I know that’s u!) and they say DS’s name in a horrible nasaly whiny way. Luckily we dont see them anymore. It made me feel ill!

StepBackNow · 03/06/2018 20:07

Isaac is pronounced Izack

villainousbroodmare · 03/06/2018 20:09

Isaac is definitely generally pronounced Izack!

FASH84 · 03/06/2018 20:10

@daisypond he can say south, birthday, another, it's like someone hit him on the head, we had five minutes earlier of Me:TabiTHa him oh yeah Tabiffuh me no, not teeth to lip, tongue to teeth, like (any other word with th in the middle, think was an example we used) him, oh yes yes, Tabiffuh. Luckily he was going out or I might've killed him. He also says undermimed every single time, that one makes me laugh though because I imagine a mime artist doing a half arsed job. He can say that properly if he thinks about it. He's actually quite bright and well educated. The weird pronunciations he gets from his mother, who whilst lovely spent more time at the stables than in a classroom.

Agreeing with others on the pronunciation of Isaac having a ‘z’ sound in English.

OP, I’d find another name. The ‘th’ as ‘f’ thing is pretty entrenched in people who use it, and it will drive you mad.

FASH84 · 03/06/2018 20:11

Oh and his manager of called Beth and he can say that!

FASH84 · 03/06/2018 20:12

daisypond · 03/06/2018 20:13

He can say Beth but can't say Tabitha?!!

frasier · 03/06/2018 20:27

Try him with “think seeth abitha maths rabitha those three Tabitha” when he gets back.

Sophronia · 03/06/2018 20:29

I say I-zuck rather than I-zack.

llangennith · 03/06/2018 20:44

You’ll have to choose another name. Maybe Tabitha as a middle name?

FASH84 · 03/06/2018 20:45

@daisypond I know! I despair, luckily we've got a lot of time for him to practice/me to come up with a plan b

Do you think maybe he doesn't like Tabitha and is trying to put you off?lol
