Deakin and Avey for twin boys?

Judestarc · 03/06/2018 10:48

Me and my partner are in the process of adopting two twin boys who have not yet been born and are trying to come up with two unusual names for them. We have 2 children already, Dexter Julian Carter (DJ) who is 5 and Violet Noelle Tuesday (Vi)
We want the names to have meaning and we both love the band animal collective and were thinking of maybe called them Deakin and Avey after 2 of the band members.
The middles names would be Kody Vincent and James Tate.
Honest opinions? I feel like they're not too odd and have meaning but obviously are a little odd.

Those are actually so cute, Cody James is adorable and Vince/Vinnie does have a special meaning to me and Cody, Vincent Dexter and Violet go well together! I really do love that thank you!

I have a dc with a learning disability. I am also of the generation that remember the morning at school after Blue Peter showed a slot on this gentleman: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joey_Deacon. I was about 10. The country's kids had been handed a gift of a thing to take the piss out of. Making a 'duh' sound with your tongue in front of your lower teeth and waving your arms, calling people a 'spaz' or a 'joey' etc. People were still saying 'you deacon' as a term of ablist abuse years later. I even remember somebody referring to the letter theta in a stats lecture at uni in 1992 as 'spasticated'. It's the first thing a lot of people my age (mid forties) will think of. Their bad, but just think you should know. Maybe naming your kid Deakin will reappropriate it.

Judestarc · 03/06/2018 12:02

Yeah I'm kinda going off it as a first name now. I'd never heard it used in that way but I asked my parents and they had but I'm thinking more of a middle name now whoops!

I think Deakin and Avey are both awful.

The later suggestions of Tate/Avery and Cody/Vincent are far better IMO.

Cosmoa · 03/06/2018 12:36

@Judestarc ahh yeah I was so tempted to go with Harrison Lennon if I had a boy but my partner would never let me haha! (I'm from Liverpool originally though so it would have been okay surely!) We looove the artist Nahko and Medicine for the people so we considered Nakoah for a boy. Because I liked Koa as a nn and we both love Nahko! I'm sure whatever you choose will be great Grin
Have a look through hawaiian names.. If not just for fun!

LionAllMessy · 03/06/2018 14:17

Panda Bear's real name is Noah Lennox. Those are both nice names!

Cosmoa · 03/06/2018 18:07

@LionAllMessy ooh good shout!! Gorgeous names 😊

Didiusfalco · 03/06/2018 18:09

Deacon and Avery - like in Nashville? Yes definitely. Your spellings - hell no.

TatianaLarina · 03/06/2018 18:13

James and Vincent are much nicer.

Didiusfalco · 03/06/2018 18:23

Malarkey that’s awful, although I’m your age and I’ve never heard that before. I don’t think it will be a reference point for the generation of these boys though.

Judestarc · 03/06/2018 19:03

I do love both of them I'm just concerned if one's quite common and ones not they won't fit together aha

Avey will get Avery for the rest of his life.

They may be unusual names, but they're also a bit dull, sorry! Avey is totally nothing. Deakin gives you another D name, so you would have trouble with the shortening.

Tate and Cody are loads better. I think your initials shortening is quite a good idea, even though I wouldn't choose it myself - so from those you can get to TJ and CJ.

Tate Avey, Cody Vincent.

FizzyGreenWater · 04/06/2018 14:28

Or if the TJ/CJ thing is a goer -

Tate James, Cody Jared

Other Js:

Jonas
Joss
Johnny
Jesse
Joel
Jude

Sherriyousmelldifferent · 04/06/2018 14:28

I like them but only because I get the AC connection- not sure they really work other than that though

SequinsOnEverything · 04/06/2018 14:38

I also misread it as Avery. And wondered why you had gone with a weird spelling of Deacon. I thought Nashville when I ready them though, if I hadn't watched that I might not have misread it.

Judestarc · 04/06/2018 16:33

The weird spelling is after a band member from animal collective who's stage name is Deakin, and Avey is from the same band his stage name is Avey Tare

Tate and Avery would be cool.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 06/06/2018 09:58

Sorry OP but I don't like those names at all.
Tate and James?

Marcipex · 06/06/2018 19:30

Corey and Cody actually sound really nice together.

I like Deakin too. I think Avey or Avery is ....I don't know....very much the second-best name. Davy would be nice and fit in better imo.
