This is our choice if the baby is a girl.
Surname is one syllable.

Thoughts?

It's fine. I'm not wild about Polly, though. It's bordering on cutesy for my taste, personally. I'd make sure the initials with your surname don't spell out a word you might not like, such as P.I.G.

CathyandHeathcliff · 02/06/2018 11:30

It'll be PIB

Too many Ls?? Polly Bella??

Maybe Polly Isabelle?

CathyandHeathcliff · 02/06/2018 11:59

@intuition I think I prefer Isabella to Isabelle

I like it.

Middle names aren't often used in real life anyway, so bella/belle shouldn't be an issue.

Polly is a lovely name. I can't imagine an adult called polly but I think by the time the current generation is older there will be a lot of names that I consider child names, as adult names?

Mollie85 · 02/06/2018 13:09

Intuition- by changing the name Isabella to Isabelle it doesn’t reduce the amount of L’s... :) unless I’ve missed your point (which is likely due to two hours sleep)

I think Polly is lovely, however I wouldn’t put Isabella as a middle... it seems a bit “frilly”

But if you love it, then go for it and good luck :)

MikeUniformMike · 02/06/2018 13:32

Polly Isabella is better than Polly Isabel.

Flamingosnbears · 02/06/2018 13:40

It's perfectly fine.

AnyaMoondial · 02/06/2018 13:47

It's brill.

Pemba · 02/06/2018 15:40

A bit of a tongue-twister, whereas Isabella Polly wouldn't be. If it is going to be Polly, then I think a middle name beginning with a consonant would work better.

thegreylady · 02/06/2018 16:05

Lovely name

FartnissEverbeans · 02/06/2018 16:20

I absolutely love Polly. Having a girly name certainly hasn't held back Polly Toynbee.

I like it a lot with Isabella too.

RavenWings · 02/06/2018 16:25

Isabella is nice. I'm with the pp that doesn't like Polly, it's cutesy and weak to me.

daisypond · 02/06/2018 16:33

Having a girly name certainly hasn't held back Polly Toynbee.
Polly isn't Polly Toynbee's real name, though. Her name is Mary, and Polly is a traditional nickname for Mary. If it was Mary Isabella with a nickname of Polly, I'd be all for it!

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 02/06/2018 16:35

I think it's lovely.

Onceuponatimethen · 02/06/2018 16:39

I would do Mary nn polly personally. Love both names so would be a bonus! I think Mary is very pretty and underused and polly is fab

CathyandHeathcliff · 02/06/2018 16:49

I always think of Polly from Fawlty Towers, when I watched that as a child, I always loved the name. My mum's name is Mary, so although I'm not so keen on Mary itself, I think Polly is a lovely alternative and one you very rarely hear, if at all. In all the schools I've worked in over the years, I haven't heard one Polly.

Thanks for the comments, I think we'll go with Polly Isabella.

Mary was always too holy for me! Wink

I also love Polly Gray in Peaky Blinders!

Glad you've made a decision. It's a nice name.

FartnissEverbeans · 02/06/2018 17:07

Polly isn't Polly Toynbee's real name, though. Her name is Mary, and Polly is a traditional nickname for Mary.

Fair enough, but she's still chosen to go by Polly professionally and it hasn't held her back.

I've taught kids named Betsy-May, Poppy, Milly, Maisie... these names are going to be/already are commonplace so it just won't be a hindrance at all. Plus it's lovely.

daisypond · 02/06/2018 17:14

I take your point, Fartniss, re Polly Toynbee's professional name - but she does come from the very well-known Toynbee family and her name was never going to hold her back at all;.

TwoDrifters · 02/06/2018 17:46

Given your user name, I’m surprised you like the name Isabella! Wink

CathyandHeathcliff · 02/06/2018 17:47

@TwoDrifters Haha that's true, although I'm not sure she came across so awfully in WH. I wasn't keen on her son Linton though!
