I think you need to give us more to go on. I've never heard of Oran. Is that a boy's name? Is it Irish? Do you want something similar?

YoucancallmeVal · 02/06/2018 10:15

I would not advise Gina.

Sessy19 · 02/06/2018 10:18

Is Oran an alternative spelling to the Irish ‘Odhran’? If so, are you looking for Irish names do you think?

Girls:
Caiomhe- Irish, or Keeva/Keva-English
Aoife-quite popular now
Saoirse-Irish, Sersha/Sershae- English

Boys:
Rohan
Finbar-means White Flamed, similar to Oran
Aodhan-Irish, Aidan-Englush

Sherriyousmelldifferent · 02/06/2018 10:18

Yes it’s a boys name, Irish, there’s a few where I am in Scotland. Dc 2 name doesn’t necessarily have to be Irish/Celtic too. Just have no idea what it goes with!

PS. I LOVE the name Oran! 😊

Sherriyousmelldifferent · 02/06/2018 10:20

Sessy- Rohan is nice, is that pronounced ro-han or ro-wan? Rowan I worry is too similar, basically the same name but sounds in a different order! Love rowan for a girl but can’t have it for this reason!

OP, I would pronounce Rohan like Roan...but I see how it’s a bit close to Oran. I’ll think of an alternative!! 😂

Sessy19 · 02/06/2018 10:26

What about Riordan for a boy? Pronounced rear-dan.

It’s a bit surnamey for England, although we do seem to have picked up that trend from the US now...and it probably originated from the Irish in any case!

Sessy19 · 02/06/2018 10:27

Or Ruahri- Rory?

CherryBlossom23 · 02/06/2018 10:31

Please don't give him an Irish surname as a name. Might as well call him Murphy Hmm.
I quite like Luke with Oran.

daisypond · 02/06/2018 10:33

For girls:
Síle or Sheila or Shelagh. (I really like this name and think it's due a comeback)
Sula came up on another thread. (Hebridean island)

Sessy19 · 02/06/2018 11:04

Riordan is NOT an Irish surname. It’s a name in its own right. It just happens to sound like a surname

CherryBlossom23 · 02/06/2018 11:20

@Sessy19 it absolutely is an Irish surname. I'm Irish, I've met plenty people with that surname.
Type in 'Riordan' to Google and have a wee look if you don't believe me. All your results with be people with that surname.

DramaAlpaca · 02/06/2018 11:25

Sessy Riordan most certainly is an Irish surname. And if you are going to suggest Irish names to the OP, please spell them correctly - it's Caoimhe & Ruairi.

Sherriyousmelldifferent · 02/06/2018 11:27

SOme lovely suggestions, thank you! Ruahri is a great one, and I like sula too!

Names don’t necessarily need to be Irish (though I tend to love most Irish boys names I hear). We have a VERY Irish surname but I’m not Irish so don’t want it to see like too much of a ‘theme’ if that makes sense.
