DH loves, what do you think? Possibly Ted for short.

It's a very bold name, you'd have to be brave to go with it because it'll for sure raise some eyebrows.
However I like it, and Ted is a cool nickname for it.

YoucancallmeVal · 01/06/2018 22:05

I've taught a couple of boys named Thaddeus - both very religious families. One was only known by his full name, the other was usually Tad.

Sophronia · 01/06/2018 22:06

I like it. I prefer Thad as a nn though.

Messalena · 01/06/2018 22:10

I quite like Tad. Nickname not decided yet though, I’m interested what you think of the full name? I think it’s a bit too much, personally, but it’s growing on me.

Well both the ones I knew were very lovely children, so only have good connotations. I teach in an area where children can be called Evangeline, Temperance or Fokrul with everything in between so would not raise the slightest eyebrow for me.

SharkSave · 01/06/2018 22:15

It's not horrendous but it just seems a bit....much

Jj2431 · 01/06/2018 22:40

Quite like but wouldn't be brave enough to use it personally.

MatildaLovesBooks · 01/06/2018 23:12

It’s awful. A complete mouthful (sorry).

Dontrocktheboat · 01/06/2018 23:20

I met a newborn Thaddeus recently. I quite like it, certainly don't think it is awful, and Ted/ Tad would be obvious shortenings. The only thing that puts me off is that it sounds a bit lispy, but that just might be me!

Picknickers · 01/06/2018 23:52

My friend has a Thaddeus Archer. It's really grown on me.. and him!

starsandstuff · 02/06/2018 00:03

I know one so I have connotations with it being incredibly pretentious because that's what the parents were. Sorry.

SexyManatee · 02/06/2018 00:07

I couldn't. Not after the scary baby in American Horror Story.

maybejane · 02/06/2018 01:20

I think its awful, sorry. Some lovely alternatives could be Theodore (nn Ted), Tobias, Silas, Julius or Cassius. :)

Whyarealltheusernamestaken · 02/06/2018 01:23

Nope, if children can’t pronounce it it’s bullying waiting to happen. It sounds pretentious

Cosmoa · 02/06/2018 02:16

I love it OP! More people need to be bold and use names like this. We were considering Aurelius for a Boy and I'm sure that would have raised some eyebrows... but who cares! We're far from pretentious. People love to.fly that word around and I think it's kind of rude imo!

villainousbroodmare · 02/06/2018 02:22

I know a really lovely Thady. I'm in Ireland and it would tend to be pronounced TAYdee with an almost hard T.

SneakyGremlins · 02/06/2018 02:24

Thaddeus is what SpongeBob's neighbour is called in the German translation Grin

BarbaraWarpecker · 02/06/2018 02:44

Not keen- tho Ted is a lovely nickname.
Prefer PPs suggestion of Cassius

Copperbonnet · 02/06/2018 02:50

I know one. Gets called Tad.

I think it’s quite nice.

pingoose · 02/06/2018 03:30

I know a very cool teenager Thaddeus, who goes by the full name. Go for it!

OliviaStabler · 02/06/2018 04:34

When I hear that name I think of Lenny Henry's Thaddeus P Wildebeest character Blush

Sessy19 · 02/06/2018 06:40

Noooo....don’t listen to the ‘sameys’ Be original! It’s cool AF, OP.

I’m still flummoxed by this notion that parents would allow their children to ‘bully’ another kid because it’s name didn’t fit with their idea of ‘acceptable’ or ‘normal’. That’s nothing to do with the way you name a child and all to to with how others choose to raise theirs. How terribly small-minded. I lived in Birmingham and have lived in London....the beautiful, exotic and culturally diverse naming conventions here in the UK allow anyone to be as flamboyant or conservative as they like. Don’t listen to naysayers.

I went to schools with an Aloysius, Inigo, Iuno, Ambrose and Ignatius. Not one of them was bullied or picked on because their slightly unusual names. I think it’s a great name.

Flamingosnbears · 02/06/2018 07:30

Its a lovely name on my list, the meaning is equally lovely...

Kintan · 02/06/2018 07:33

It’s the kind of name I associate with American frat boys/jocks!

DuggeeHugs · 02/06/2018 07:59

I really like it with Thad as the nn. Was on my list but DH not a fan
