Name anxiety!!

I was just interested in your opinions... I have never been a names person particularly until I had my baby boy. We have seemingly given him a very unique name, but didn’t seem rare to us as we both knew people called this. Everyone was shocked as my older daughter has a very popular, “normal”, classic name. Also, a lot of people say it’s a dogs name, however this never even crossed my mind when we named him!

How important is it really to have “matching” names?

My aunt had a ghastly black lab called Digby, nn ‘diggie diggie diggie’.

But there’s a Digby on MIC so why not?

Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock Shock this is the only name I can think of for my DS2 (due end August) but as there were only 20 or so on the ONS register last year I thought it'd be really really unlikely to come across anyone else thinking of using it! And this is the second thread in a week I've seen mention it. Delighted most of the comments on here are positive. Now to convince DH (who has come up with nothing so...)

Go for it Pug.

Petalflowers · 01/06/2018 21:33

Digby is a great name and well, overdue a revival.

ThePug · 01/06/2018 21:35

DS1 is Ralph and I think it goes nicely (he's also 2.5 and obsessed with diggers so thinking he'll love his baby brother being called that Grin )

@TiddlyWinks01 what sort of ages/background are the Digbys you knew previously? I've don't know any -but may have done a Facebook search to see what sort of profiles come up-

TiddlyWinks01 · 01/06/2018 21:36

Let’s bring it back, ThePug!

I know 3 men in their 60s’/70’s and a little one that an acquaintance called their son. I think it’s fabulous and totally underused!

My thoughts exactly! How do people react when you introduce him at baby groups etc? Is it mainly family giving you the critical opinions?

TiddlyWinks01 · 01/06/2018 21:55

To be fair most people are delighted to hear a name that isn’t “run-of-the mill” and think it’s great. We are pretty upper middle class (never thought I’d have to class myself!!!) but some “working class” give me the look! I guess it’s just because it’s a name that isn’t populate! Have had more positive than negative really

I like it but it does set me off singing the theme tune to Digby Dragon. Give it a couple of years and you'll know what I mean. My son also has a name that is linked with a dragon song 😊

Armchairanarchist · 01/06/2018 21:59

When I was little my favourite film was Digby, the biggest dog in the world.

TiddlyWinks01 · 01/06/2018 22:07

Ok to be fair I have no idea how to class us 😂😂😂😂😂 just googled and we aren’t those people. This is hilarious! One Digby I know is a millionaire and another is just so freaking cool it wouldn’tatter what he is.
