The only name I like is Lottie when looking at top 100 names. I don't really like charlotte though , is Lottie acceptable on its own? Also do you like the name? I think it's cute

There's also Lotte pronounced the same which is an acceptable first name.

Jj2431 · 31/05/2018 08:32

I really dislike it as a nn so definitely wouldn't as an actual name.

BlueTrousers · 31/05/2018 08:33

As a grown up will your child appreciate a ‘cute’ name?

Flamingosnbears · 31/05/2018 08:33

The e is a so Lotta...

SparklyMagpie · 31/05/2018 08:34

My nickname is Lottie, although I prefer it being spelt Lotte

Its one I'd consider if it wasn't already my name Grin

blondeemily · 31/05/2018 08:35

I know of a Lottie whose name is just that Smile

Flicketyflack · 31/05/2018 08:35

Lotta/e (like Charlie & Lola).

Lottie nn for Charlotte

Smile
PurpleDaisies · 31/05/2018 08:35

Ive taught several Lotties.

Insponeeded · 31/05/2018 08:58

Baby in the bed opposite me and DD in Hospital was just Lottie. The mother said she had no intention of ever calling her Charlotte so didn’t see the point of putting it on the BC. I think Lotte would be better as a stand alone name myself.

bridgetreilly · 31/05/2018 09:02

Liselotte, nn Lottie?

I wouldn't just call her Lottie, personally. I think it's good to have a full name and options.

Joeybee · 31/05/2018 09:11

I think Lottie is too cutesy. If you call her Charlotte on her birth certificate then you can still call her Lottie, but you're giving her the option of a 'full' name that is versatile, incase she doesn't want to be stuck with Lottie.

RedDwarves · 31/05/2018 09:15

Lottie and Lotte are pronounced differently. Lotte is like "lotta".

Lottie is fine. I prefer it as a shortening for Charlotte, but it's a bit like Rosie in that it's reasonably well used and accepted as a standalone name.

DarkLikeVader · 31/05/2018 09:34

Lottie is cute but I think it needs to be a nn. I know one Scarlet nn Lottie or how about Carlotta?

catalinablue · 31/05/2018 11:22

I also think that whilst Lottie is lovely, it is too cutesy as a full name (and probably not such a nice name to have as a working professional).

Lottie would be reasonably possible as a nn for any of the following:
Carlotta
Loretta
Scarlett
Letitia
Violetta

sonnyboo · 31/05/2018 12:31

How is Lotte and Lottie pronounced the same?

Lottie = Lott-ie
Lotte = Lott-eh
Lotta = Lott-ah

MaybeyBaybey · 31/05/2018 12:35

How is Lotte and Lottie pronounced the same?

It isn't, I agree.

Lotta nn Lottie is nice. I also like Carlotta.

The only name I like is Lottie when looking at top 100 names

Does it have to be a top 100 name?

villainousbroodmare · 31/05/2018 12:36

I love Carlotta.

Ohyesiam · 31/05/2018 12:38

Good to have full name option for job interviews etc.

ProjectInsanity · 31/05/2018 12:39

DH vetoed it Sad but I would have gone for Carlotta or Charlotte as a full name.

CookPassBabtridge · 31/05/2018 12:47

Names are changing OP, short names will all be normal when it's time for them to have interviews etc. Don't call her Charlotte if you don't like the name! I know one adult Lottie and it sounds great.

lottiegarbanzo · 31/05/2018 12:55

Well, it is lovely, of course but IMO best as a nn for a more dignified, grown-up full name.

Personally, I like the fact it sounds quite different from the formal name(s), so there's a clear 'work and acquaintances vs friends and family' distinction.

It only works with people who enunciate 't' clearly, rather than with a glottal stop. 'Loh-ee' isn't so appealing.

Loretta, Carlotta, Liselotte are interesting variations. Might there be any other Italian names that shorten to Lottie?

whatthefuc · 31/05/2018 12:58

I have a lottie. She is officially Charlotte in case she wasn't a lottie but more a Charlotte or Charlie. She is 13 and very much suits the name. I love it

JumpingFrogs · 31/05/2018 19:53

Knew a German Lieselotte (pronounced Lisa Lotta)

Mrsknackered · 31/05/2018 21:48

I like Lotta a lot (ha)

Lotte is on our girls list, but it’s not pronounced either Lottie or Lotta, I can’t really explain, it like a much snappier ‘a’ sound at the end.

Mrsknackered · 31/05/2018 21:51

Sorry sonny already has the pronunciation covered!

What about?

Rose
Maeve
Lila(h)
Marnie
Raya
