What do you think? Is it too much?

I came across it and it keeps coming back into my mind... is it pregnancy hormones?!

sonnyboo · 30/05/2018 21:22

Love it!

Sophronia · 30/05/2018 21:31

I like it!

RoseMartha · 30/05/2018 21:33

Nice and unusual, I only met one Lysander before and he is probably in his 30's now.

Grandmaswagsbag · 30/05/2018 21:35

I thought of this name the other day and wondered about it! Following with interest.

mrsshelby44 · 30/05/2018 21:43

How do you pronounce it? Just as it's written? Never seen it before where is it from?

ReservoirDogs · 30/05/2018 21:45

Shakespeare- Midsummer Night's dream

LastDrWho · 30/05/2018 21:49

Makes me think of Jilly Cooper - the man who made husbands jealous.

FogCutter · 30/05/2018 21:53

Its super-posh!

Reminds me of a Jilly Cooper novel but I do quite like it! Not sure I'd be brave enough to use it though!

AuntieStella · 30/05/2018 21:53

Lysander was a descendant of Hercules, and a Greek military and political leader who won the final victory for Sparta in the Peloponnesian War.

I like it as a name, but do be aware that it's very Jilly (main character in 'The Man Who Made HusbandsJealous'

mpsw · 30/05/2018 21:56

Grenadier Guards:

"Some talk of Alexander, and some of Hercules
Of Hector and Lysander, and such great names as these'

CheshireSplat · 30/05/2018 21:56

Definitely more Jilly Cooper than Shakespeare for me I'm afraid...

Blaablaablaa · 30/05/2018 21:58

Sorry - jilly cooper and the man who made husband's jealous. That's the first thing that springs to mind

LastDrWho · 30/05/2018 22:02

Oh I love that @mpsw

I'm only vaguely aware of Jilly Cooper.
But I guess I'd rather he made husbands jealous than be a jealous husband I guess!

My OH is now sending me voice memos of 'belt sander' and 'electric sander' after I suggested it so may have to let it sit with him a while before he feels the love for it too!

LastDrWho · 30/05/2018 22:03

Is the Jilly Cooper novel a bad connotation? I had a look and it's from 1993... is it well known and relevant?

m0therofdragons · 30/05/2018 22:04

It's a main road name in my town so really hard to think of it as a dc name, I just see Morrison's, McDonald's, b&q and Lidl's, although the other side of the road has a beautiful park Blush

Hollyhunter18 · 30/05/2018 22:04

It’s beautiful. My friend’s son has that name.

LastDrWho · 30/05/2018 22:06

@m0therofdragons 😂

LastDrWho · 30/05/2018 22:06

@Hollyhunter18 how old is your sons friend? Any difficulties with pronunciation that you know of etc?

OP posts:
TatianaLarina · 30/05/2018 22:08

Lysander was a Spartan general and also a WW2 plane. Is it the Shakespeare connection that makes it supposedly ‘posh’? There’s no real reason for it to be.

If you’re southern it’s Lysarnder - so the sander reference is irrel.

m0therofdragons · 30/05/2018 22:08

Sorry I wasn't helpful. On the plus side, people round here pronounce it with no issues. Grin

coragreta · 30/05/2018 22:09

Hope he never get nits

NotARegularPenguin · 30/05/2018 22:09

Ales me immediately think of Jilly Cooper but it was a good read. I love the name.

BevBrook · 30/05/2018 22:10

There was a thread about Lysander only a few weeks ago, so perhaps it is getting more popular!

BevBrook · 30/05/2018 22:12

Strangely although I am from the South of England and would say Alex-arn -der I wouldn’t say Ly-sarnd-er, it would be Lysander. No idea why.
