Is Felicity Elizabeth too much?!

Set on the name Felicity but Elizabeth as middle name is a family tradition - I’m not sure but do you think it is too frilly and long-winded?

It doesn't flow particularly well, because Felicity is more "pointed" sounding than something like Alexandra, which is also four syllables.

But hardly anyone is going to know her middle name, and there will be a handful of times in her life when she says it aloud. I don't even use my middle name, which is another possibility.

InkSnail · 24/05/2018 09:46

TBH I think the combination is a bit much, yes. They have similar sounds and rhythm, as they're both 4 syllables with the stress on the second. Fe-li is quite similar in sound to E-li.

bridgetreilly · 24/05/2018 09:47

I think it's absolutely fine.

InkSnail · 24/05/2018 09:47

Would it be an option to use a different form/nickname of Elizabeth?

Felicity Eliza
Felicity Elspeth
Felicity Beth

SpacePenguin · 24/05/2018 09:50

It's perfect. Long, but absolutely fine.

FizzingWhizzbee · 24/05/2018 09:59

We considered it, and I think it is lovely. The only reason we didn't use it was because we have a close friend with one of those names and I didn't want to name DD after anyone, or have anyone think we had done so.

BabloHoney · 24/05/2018 16:08

I think it sounds fine (and a lovely choice of names!) if you're worried about how it flows, could you put another short name in the middle eg Felicity Anne Elizabeth?x

MammieBear · 24/05/2018 16:15

It's fine if it's a tradition.

Moominfan · 24/05/2018 16:16

Its nice and how often do you ever use your middle name?

bigfishlittlefishtupperwarebox · 24/05/2018 16:20

It kind of depends on the surname for me. A long surname with 3/4 syllables would be too much, but a short surname would sound fine.

Outbackshack · 24/05/2018 16:20

Just from personal experience (close relatives) please don’t use Elspeth! I know 2 people with that as a middle name and they completely hate it. I actually think Felicity Elizabeth sounds lovely and as said by others middle names are used so infrequently. What does the surname begin with?

calzone · 24/05/2018 16:26

Could you add a shorter name in the middle?

Felicity Anne Elisabeth

shirleyschmidt1 · 24/05/2018 16:29

No, it's long but pretty! As it's a middle name I think the meaning and purpose behind it matters more than having the perfect flow IYSWIM.

HeyDolly · 24/05/2018 18:01

I think it’s fine. The two names in full will rarely be used together anyway.

noideawithboysnames · 24/05/2018 18:46

It’s my friends name, think it’s lovely. I have a long first, middle and surname. It’s never bothered me, just almost run out of boxes when filling out exam papers (in school) x🤷🏻‍♀️

DramaAlpaca · 24/05/2018 18:47

It's nice, I like it.

IVflytrap · 24/05/2018 18:58

Felicity Beth?

WeaselsRising · 24/05/2018 19:03

Not too frilly but the emphasis is at the same point in both names, so they don't flow. Isabel is a version of Elizabeth and Felicity Isabel would flow better.

But as others have said you don't use middle name very much, so if you like it go for it.

KarineAimee · 24/05/2018 19:11

It’s fine.

Pebblespony · 24/05/2018 19:14

If you think about it, how many of your colleagues' etc. second names do you know? Unless you're going to be saying "Felicity Elizabeth, come in for your tea!", I don't think it really matters.

midsomermurderess · 24/05/2018 19:19

Why not, they aren't going to be used together, are they?

Pinktails · 24/05/2018 19:44

It's lovely, nothing wrong with it.

Glumglowworm · 24/05/2018 19:45

It’s fine, but especially as it’s a tradition it’s nice to stick to if you want to. Elizabeth is one of my all time favourite names though so I’m possibly biased!

Pinktails · 24/05/2018 19:50

While she's a delicious little baby and just between me and her I'd call her Flissy-Lizzy Smile

17caterpillars1mouse · 24/05/2018 19:54

I think it's a lovely name
