What are your thoughts on the following girls names:

Elspeth shortened to either Essie or Elsie

Ethel possibly shortened to Effie

Elspeth nn Elsie is gorgeous.

InkSnail · 22/05/2018 08:27

Elspeth is the nicest IMHO.

Racecardriver · 22/05/2018 08:28

Not keen on Ethel but like all the others.

franktheskank · 22/05/2018 08:31

I love isadora and it's one of mine and dhs top choices for our next baby.

I also love Ethel and it is having a bit of a revival but most people still don't like it, so it feels depends how much you care , and if you live in an area where she would be teased for having a name like that, it would go down well round here!

manicinsomniac · 22/05/2018 09:36

Elspeth shortened to either Essie or Elsie - I don't like Elspeth. Elsie is sweet ( could be a standalone name quite happily) and I like Essie (perhaps for Esme, Vanessa or Elizabeth?)

Ethel possibly shortened to Effie - I really don't like Ethel but love Effie (standalone or nn for Elizabeth)

Enid - not keen.

Olive maybe shortened to Oli - don't like Olive but do like Olivia

Isadora - It's ok. For some reason I think it's a bit fussy but I don't think that about Isabella so I guess it's just because it's less used.

Olive is fun and spunky so that would be my favourite from your list Elspeth to me sounds like your not saying Elizabeth correctly.

gwen25 · 22/05/2018 11:51

LOVE Enid and Isadora!
Elspeth is lovely too.

Sessy19 · 22/05/2018 11:56

I was at school with an Elspeth, her name was shortened to Elfie. It really suited her, because she was a charismatic and bubbly person, and small too.

I think all the names are a little bit popular for my taste, but they aren’t offensive.

TheRealMotherGoose · 22/05/2018 12:02

I like Elspeth and Isadora best.

MrsCD67 · 22/05/2018 12:42

Elspeth and Isadora are lovely but I really don't like the other names

17caterpillars1mouse · 23/05/2018 13:45

Sessy i'd be interested to know what names you like if they are a bit popular for your tastes? Only 67 girls were called Elspeth in 2016 and 28 Enid's and 16 Ethel's. Never thought I'd hear them described as too popular to be honest

Elspeth/Elsie are my favourites. Gorgeous.

All awful apart from Isadora.

starkid · 23/05/2018 15:48

I like Isadora, then Enid, then Olive :)
Not so much Ethel or Elspeth.

happytobemrsg · 23/05/2018 16:20

Don't like any of them, sorry. What about Elsie or Violet?

AnnaM247 · 24/05/2018 21:03
