"Too French" - boys name

We have a three syllable, French surname (think le-something)

I like three syllable first names (Sebastian, Tobias, and Nathaniel). Husband thinks they all sound "too French", and I suppose he's right. Not that there's any problem with that (I think he's just trying to put me off!)

He likes Heath.

I like Heath but generally not keen on one syllable names for some reason.

Any thoughts?

Could you go for 'Louis', which is used here but which is actually French?

Do you have currrent links to France? There Heath would be pronounced Heeessssss given the 'th' sound which would put me off. I don't think your list sounds very French and also they are all names that would get shortened here, Seb, Toby, Nate which really don't sound French.

Heath? How about Blair, Cameron, Thatcher or Wilson.
Sorry but Heath makes me think of Keith.

We don't want the name to sound French (look French when written down). I agree the shortened versions take away the French feel.
Husband is now just saying he doesn't like my suggestions :)

Don’t like Heath or its use with a long surname.

Tobias and Nathaniel are biblical, not French. If I had to assume a nationality, I would assume a Tobias was British and a Nathaniel was American. Neither seem French to me at all. Sebastian isn't French either, although it does strike me as more continental European than the other two.

We have French relatives, they confirm that none of those names “sound French”. If you can’t agree you’ll just have keep searching until you find something you both like.

My children are called two of the names you listed and I hadn’t considered them French at all!! 😬

Tobias and Nathaniel are def not French (although I know one French Canadian guy called Nathanael, but only one and it's a very unusual name in France). Tobias is definitely not French, I think it's German. Anyway, I'm French and the only name that sounds French to me is Sebastian - Sébastien.

I personally am not keen on Heath.

How are any of those names french? Even remotely. I think that your husband doesn't know what he is taking about. I suggest you put forward Etienne and see what he says to that.

i don't see any of those names as French, but I also don't see two of them as three syllable.
