Most people on here don't like hyphenated names OP. Come up with? Sounds like you made it up. That's also frowned on on here.

Donna1990 · 21/05/2018 12:32

Ah yes iv seen before some people dont like names like that!! Yes as in we come up with it and put the 2 names togeather :)

No to Aria-Lily Marie.
Yes to Aria Lily (as a middle name) or Aria Marie (as a middle name).
I'd go with Aria Lily, personally, unless Marie is a traditional family name.

SleepingStandingUp · 21/05/2018 12:35

Both names were on my short list although probably would have gone Lilliana nn Lilly or Arianna nn Aria.

Hyphens are oft derided in MN

ellsbells2 · 21/05/2018 12:35

Sorry I don't like it at all. However it is your child and so you're the ones that need to be happy with it.

userabcname · 21/05/2018 12:36

Well I like it OP! Lovely choice.

ellsbells2 · 21/05/2018 12:36

Arianna is nice though.

Sophronia · 21/05/2018 12:43

I’m not keen (don’t like hyphenated names and Aria is very trendy). Would you consider Aria Lily Marie without the hyphen?

Conciergeandchocolate · 21/05/2018 13:15

Whether you like it or not Op, the name will inevitably get shortend.

In this case I suspect Ari or A-L.

Are you happy with that?

Donna1990 · 21/05/2018 13:19

Yeah we did sit and talk and say she will probably have it shortened to aria anyways... which we are happy with... but we really like the aria-lily. X

Lily is so over used at the moment and worse with a hyphen. What's wrong with Aria then middle name no hyphen?

MikeUniformMike · 21/05/2018 13:34

Aria is a name that is flying up the charts so will probably date badly.
Lily is nice, but Lil isn't.
A hyphen weakens the prettiness of the names and is not considered very classy in this country.
Aria-Lily is quite a mouthful, and will probably not get used in full.
Marie is nice but it seems like another middle name.
I really wouldn't hyphenate Aria and Lily even if you wanted to call her by the two names, and I absolutely would not join them into Arialily

DrinkYourGreenTea · 21/05/2018 13:41

I like Aria, but I’ve heard it pronounced both ‘a-ree-a’ and ‘are-ree-a’. Because it’s not very popular in the UK, you have to be prepared for people to say it both ways.

I’m not keen on the hyphen Lily. Lily is very boring and overused IMO. But if you’re happy for her name to be shortened to Aria and you love the ‘-Lily’, go for it.

Jammycustard · 21/05/2018 13:44

Aria is one of the new Eva/Ava type names. I don’t think Aria-Lily flows terribly well; it’s clunky.

Pudding01 · 21/05/2018 13:51

I know a lot of people hyphenate first names now (and each to their own) but I think it takes the class niceness out of each of the names and I imagine as an adult they will drop one anyway...
It's a pretty name. But I'd have Aria Lily so it works for both the child and the adult Smile

InkSnail · 21/05/2018 14:11

If you've already decided why does it make any difference what we think?

bridgetreilly · 21/05/2018 14:14

If you like it and you've decided, great.

I still don't like it.

theplanetjanet · 21/05/2018 14:18

Not a brilliant idea to come and ask opinions if you are set on it and love it OP, as it looks like the majority aren't keen you are just inviting upset surely?!

I think the double barrel is unnecessary - they make the name really clunky and a bit less classy. Aria Lily Marie (as a first name and two second names) is really pretty - if you then decide you want to say two names when you speak then do so, I'd just suggest dropping the hyphen.

LadyPug · 21/05/2018 15:16

Aria is the fastest growing name in the uk this year (I read this in a naming book this morning!)

MikeUniformMike · 21/05/2018 15:19

How do you say Aria and is it the same as Arya? I'd guess it was Ahr-ya, but I suppose it could be Ar-ee-a (arrear?), Ar-ya or Air-ya (area?).

Aussiemouse · 21/05/2018 15:40

Love Aria as a name! Has a nice flow to it. Makes me think of an Aria from classical singing and also pretty Aria from Pretty Little Liars if you've seen that? Aria Lily seperately is really pretty in my opinion, but as someone who has a name that could have been hyphenated, but wasn't - it hasn't stopped ppl adding one that's not there -avoid hyphens. Too much confusion growing up!

LionAllMessy · 21/05/2018 15:40

Mike, it is pronounced like the word area but with an Ah at sound at the beginning instead of "air"

MikeUniformMike · 21/05/2018 15:46

Thought so - like the musical term. And Arya is the same, I guess.
Not sure I like it, but I don't dislike it. It just seems 'trendy'. I don't like hyphenated names.

TeenTimesTwo · 21/05/2018 15:50

5 syllables? At I a lil ee
That is a mouthful.
I'd drop the hyphen and just have 3 names.
But it's nice enough.

manicinsomniac · 21/05/2018 16:18

I think it's lovely and you should go for it.

There is no difference between Aria-Lily and Aria Lily; they sound exactly the same so there's no need for people to say the hyphen ruins it.

I have a hyphenated name and it's completely irrelevant to my life. I think of the second bit as a middle name and my name sounds the same either way.
