We're only TTC (baby 2) but we always talk about names early as we tend to disagree on everything 🙈

DH came home today and said he might like the name Adam... It's a nice classic name, that hasn't had it's big come back yet (I don't think?) and he thinks goes with our DD, Erin.

My favourite name is George. I wanted that if Erin had been a boy. But I know it's very popular.

We discussed Toby once upon a time. But I don't like Tobias.

What are your thoughts on Adam? TIA x

Love it. Would definitely have been on my shortlist but a close family member has the name so we couldn’t use it.

FWIW I love Toby (prefer Tobiah to Tobias) but dislike George. Wouldn’t want my son to share a name with the prince or with George Osborne!

I like Adam very much - I would have liked to use it if it didn't sound a bit similar to another name of someone in the family. I do like George too, but it's very popular at the moment, and I also think Adam might fit better with Erin.

I don't like Toby quite as much, but it's not a bad name, and I don't think it necessarily has to be short for Tobias. Lots of boys are just Toby.

Thank you everyone. Adam has officially been added to the list.

It's weird, when DH first suggested it I was like 'meh, it's fine', but it's grown on me over the last couple of days

Won't be ruling out George until the very end though! 😂 DH's family tradition is to have their name as the second name. His name is Dan.
Adam George sounds better than Adam Daniel....
I'd allow George Daniel though hehehe x

Hang on your dh doesn’t get to choose 2 names. If he wants this you could compromise with 3 or ditch the family tradition. Your choices for respecting his tradition are:
George Adam Daniel or George Daniel (in this scenario, you always get George as the first name because he’s picked 2 as a 3 namer).

Without them becomes:
Adam George or George Adam.

In dhs family, the children were traditionally given the grandparents name, thus 3 first names. I told him that wasn’t an option as I don’t like the names and my mother is a very difficult woman. The last thing I needed was to honour the narcissist and give me a constant reminder of my mother. As was, for a while, my mother was going round calling dd ‘little dhs name’. Dd would have permanently been ‘little grandmas name’. Dh agreed totally with my reasoning though.

Let me guess, the baby will have DH’s surname too?!

Women are not just vessels to produce children for men to name how they want.

Pudding01 · 20/05/2018 07:25

I've just realised that he would have all the names if he got his own way 😯 Thanks for pointing that out girls!

I will be putting my foot down if we do get our little boy and choosing the names together, so the fairer choices would be;
Adam George
or
George Daniel

I love it.
Unfortunately where I live, a lot of locals pronounce it Adum, which sounds awful.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/05/2018 07:28

Adam George is only fair if your ds gets your surname.

NameChange30 · 20/05/2018 08:09

I’m not a girl, but you’re welcome Smile

lettuceWrap · 20/05/2018 08:24

We have an Adam. It can mean red man as well as first born - appropriate as DS is red-blond!

As PP said, nicknames tend to be lengthened. DS was Adamski for a while amongst his friends (also Adman or Theman HmmGrin - it’s just Adam now he’s at Uni).

buttercup54321 · 20/05/2018 19:19

Adam George is very nice.

Pudding01 · 20/05/2018 20:41

Adman & Theman 😂 Love the stuff kids come out with.
I've seen Adamski mentioned on here a few times as a nn. I've never heard of it. What's it related to?

My Dad's just told me I would have been Adam if I were a boy.
And if he'd have won the first round of Yahtzee, I would have been named Kayleigh from his favourite song. How light hearted was naming kids in the 80s?! Lol

love it! My Adam is 28 in a couple of weeks....

I have no idea but my Adam gets Adamski as well (not from us).

lettuceWrap · 21/05/2018 17:09

Op, the Adamski nn might be related the DJ of that name? I wonder if it’s to do with the influx of Polish and other Eastern European people in recent decades - lots of -ski suffix names, kids at school probably just picked up on that as a “thing”?

stressedoutfred · 21/05/2018 17:42

Gorgeous name, my 10 year old nephew is called Adam

Sessy19 · 21/05/2018 17:48

Eurgh.... George is sooooo common.

I also think it’s a really ugly name.

Adam is classic, timeless. Very masculine. I think I fancied a couple of Adams, back n the day!! Grin
