What do you guys think of the name Finn?

How popular is it really?

Is it gaining more common?

Apparently its in top 100 for 2017 but at very end (77)

My Fin is a month off 19 and I've always loved his name. His full name is Finlay, but very rarely is he called this.

missmorleyme · 18/05/2018 19:42

I absolutely love the name Finn. If we were to have anymore I would definitely consider Finn against my other favourite name.

wtf2018 · 18/05/2018 19:50

I know a Phineas who is a Finn. Definitely increasing in popularity and I think it's gorgeous

bridgetreilly · 18/05/2018 19:54

I know a few Finns and Fynns.

Iplaythetriangle · 18/05/2018 21:03

I know lots 5 and under. Think they are all Finleys/Finlays on BC

TatianaLarina · 18/05/2018 21:05

I prefer Fingal or Finbar personally.

I know a Phinn.

MikeWyzowski · 18/05/2018 21:08

I live in Ireland and there are dozens of Finn's. Girls and boys. It's v popular here but its still a nice name, i wouldn't let its popularity put me off. I gave my firstborn a relatively unknown name and its been in the top ten since she was 8. You can't control that so go for what you like.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 18/05/2018 21:09

Love it, one of my favourite names.

DramaAlpaca · 18/05/2018 21:14

I love it. If I'd had another DS he'd have been Finn.

As I didn't, I used it on the dog

FizzyGreenWater · 18/05/2018 21:47

I know a couple - really like it, dislike Finley or any of the longer forms though.

Ragusa · 18/05/2018 21:49

I like it a lot. Sweet on a kid but great for an adult, too.

Velvetbee · 18/05/2018 22:00

I don’t think of it as a naughty boy’s name. The one I know best is doing a degree in medieval history.

Namelesswonder · 18/05/2018 22:04

I know a couple, and several Finlay’s (I’m in Scotland), I like it

TheActualFuck · 18/05/2018 22:10

Know a couple of little Finlay's, a Finn and a Fintan.

Fintan is my favourite of the three.

TheActualFuck · 18/05/2018 22:11

Name that is although he is actually the nicest of them all to be honest

jigsawpiece · 20/05/2018 21:44

Love it. Great name :-)

PasswordRejection · 23/05/2018 10:39

There is a Finnion and a Finley in my DC's reception class (both shortened to Finn/Fin) and a Finn in the other reception class. It's definitely popular but it's lovely. I was one of 3 of my name in my class of 24 at school but it has never bothered me!

PasswordRejection · 23/05/2018 10:40

Oh and all 3 are absolutely lovely boys - definitely not a naughty boy name IMO!

Trooperslane2 · 23/05/2018 10:41

DD would have been Finn if she had been a boy.

Me and DH absolutely love it.

I only know 1 who's about 10? and a Flynn of the same age.

But definitely prefer Finn.

We are Irish, but that's not why we liked it. More of a Huckleberry Finn vibe for us. We have a loooong surname so a short first name works better.

BarefootAndDancing · 23/05/2018 10:49

I know one 8-year-old Finn, school friend of my DC. Continental Europe but one parent is English.

I quite like the name and the little boy himself is lovely, which helps. He also has quite a long non-English surname and it works well with that without jarring.

I dislike Finlay, Finley and Flynn, and sorry to PP but Finbar immediately makes me think of Finbar Saunders and his double entendres from Viz.

17caterpillars1mouse · 23/05/2018 12:13

I quite like Finn but not as a stand-alone name and the only longer name I vaguely like is Phineas but not enough to use
