What do people think? I love it. And I love very few boys names!

DH loves it too but thinks it’s a risk.
We live in London so I think most kids don’t think twice about names (I’m a teacher) as there’s so much diversity.

But I don’t want to lumber a baby with a name he’ll get teased over.

Thoughts?!

If DD had been DS2 she would have been a Jesse! I love it

Lindy2 · 18/05/2018 14:42

I like it.
As you say, the diversity of names in London is huge. No one will bat an eyelid.
It's a nice name. Go for it.

DanielCraigsUnderpants · 18/05/2018 14:44

My little boy's middle name is Eric after my wonderful grandfather, I also love Jesse. Your names get two very big thumbs up from me.

DameSylvieKrin · 18/05/2018 14:54

Great name. I've never heard anyone younger than my mum call anyone a big Jessie.

BertieBotts · 18/05/2018 15:38

Oh no you can't do Jesse Eric - two e sounds together doesn't work :(

BananaBlaps · 18/05/2018 15:47

I think it works Bertie. It’s the ee sound followed by ‘eh’ sound rather than two “ee”s. Nothing’s putting me off now! Unless it’s a girl!

Love Jesse for a boy (and Jessie for a girl)

LittleBlip · 18/05/2018 16:29

I love the name.

'You're a big Jesse' is something my Dad would say Hmm
I think that is definitely a generational phrase so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

MikeUniformMike · 18/05/2018 16:40

It's an insult.

weegiemum · 18/05/2018 17:04

"Big Jessie" still a very common thing to say in Glasgow, but luckily OP isn't here!

Arcadia · 18/05/2018 17:05

I know two little boys called Jesse just in my immediate social circle. No problems with the name that I have heard of from them.

DramaAlpaca · 18/05/2018 17:06

It's one of those names I like but wouldn't use.

LittleBlip · 18/05/2018 17:07

It is an insult, but one that I don't think would be used by anybody under the age of 60!

BertieBotts · 18/05/2018 17:14

It's not a very PC insult these days is it? It's basically saying you're gay/effeminate. Nothing wrong with either of those things.

BananaBlaps · 18/05/2018 17:21

Yeah I totally agree - it’s not ok to say that these days anyway. It’s like using the term ‘gay’ as an insult.

Ha, ha yes lucky I’m not in Glasgow then!

I think it is a generational thing also. So who know what parents will think!

Anyway bump may be a girl anyway!

Or saying “you’re such a girl” as an insult. Makes my blood boil! Although I did her next door’s boys slinging that at each other the other day 🙄

Ah yes, my Dad also says to my 3 yr old son:

"Stop screaming/screeching, you're a boy and only girls do that" Confused

SharkSave · 18/05/2018 18:12

It's a bit.....wet

boymum9 · 18/05/2018 18:20

We have a Jesse, we love it, most people we come across who ask his name love it and actually see it more as a boy name than the girl version. I've had a few convos with older ladies who ask his name and when I say they say "oh so it's a girl!" "No, he's boy!" "Aw well she's lovely" haha, but it's not v often at all! All our family is American so we didn't really get any of our family thinking it was an odd choice, we are in the uk though!

SazCat · 18/05/2018 18:46

I like it!

But as for this...
nobody is calling their daughters Jessica or Jessie at the moment

Actually not 'nobody', we have a 1 year old Jessica who we often call Jessie! And as a pp said, it's still a well used name according to the popularity lists.

I don't think it matters anyway that it can be a girl or boys name, so are many others!

Beansprout30 · 18/05/2018 23:00

Erm wild I have a 22 month old Jessie, I think there is a Jesse at her nursery too, I love it for a boy or girl

Buntysoven · 18/05/2018 23:33

My cousin has a Jessie. He's 9 and is lovely inside and out! Lived in London for first 5 years of his life and never teased. I think of him so I really adore the name.

Buntysoven · 18/05/2018 23:34

Well what a mistake to make! Bloody autocorrect. He's Jesse obvs! 😶

enpointeredshoes · 18/05/2018 23:37

I always think of this song when someone says Jesse. Grin

I love it. My husband vetoed on the grounds discussed. I met someone with a three year old Jesse and she said it constantly confused people as they thought he was a girl/ had a girl’s name. Personally, I’d still totally go for it as it’s just so cool and the teasing or confusing only highlights people’s ignorance, which you can’t base your life decisions on.
