Amelia

Clawdy · 16/05/2018 15:39

Most people will pronounce them the same. I know an Amelia well, and have never heard anyone say Am-elia.

sonnyboo · 17/05/2018 09:21

*Emilia = E (as in egg)

Amelia = A (as in apple)*

Exactly. They start with different letters so why wouldn't you pronounce those letters?Confused

TitZilla · 17/05/2018 09:33

Ah me lee ah

Em ill yah

Amelia looks and sounds so much nicer. Emilia, to me, always looks like you’ve spelt Amelia wrong/‘uniquely’ (I’m well aware they’re different names)

Zoflorabore · 17/05/2018 09:36

Don't like either ( sorry ) but Emilia looks and sounds nicer.
Amelia is just so harsh sounding and it's all I hear doing the school drop off
"Ameeeeeeeeeeeelia"

Cobblersandhogwash · 17/05/2018 09:37

Emilia is beautiful.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/05/2018 09:40

The Emilia we know is pronounced Amelia.

I think I prefer Amelia.

VileyRose · 17/05/2018 09:43

Emilia looks micer

IWouldLikeToKnow · 17/05/2018 09:53

I much prefer Emilia. In fact, it was our top girls name when we had our son!

TatianaLarina · 17/05/2018 10:18

Much prefer Amelia.

Jedigirl29 · 29/05/2018 22:00

Emilia i feel like it's different and not as popular

YouBetterWORK · 29/05/2018 23:26

Emilia. DD was nearly this, I dreamt shortly before her birth that this would be her name, with Emmy as a nickname. Wasn't even on the list before. However decided to stick with top list name in the end as it was too much 'on a whim'. But lovely name.

TheOriginalEmu · 29/05/2018 23:50

they are very similar in pronunciation in every day speech. i like how Emilia looks better. I also prefer Emily (and Sophie!).

Delphiniumum · 29/05/2018 23:56

Emilia.

Amelia is a birth defect.

Pudding01 · 30/05/2018 08:30

Emilia by a mile!

This was my name for DD, but DH vetoed it.

I imagine different people would pronounce it differently, depending on their dialect. But to me, there is clear difference between Emilia and Amelia.

Em-ee-lee-ah
A-mee-lee-ah

The name worked well for Emilia Fox, so I say go for the name you prefer Smile x

Pemba · 30/05/2018 15:40

I am still unclear what the correct pronunciation of Emilia should be. Many people seem to pronounce Amelia and Emilia the same, so to be honest I don't really see the point of Emilia. Just stick to Amelia, which everyone agrees on!
