I really like the name Theo but our surname is Hogan and not sure if Theo Hogan sounds ok or not? Would it make a difference if we went for Theodore with Theo as a nickname?

Thank you!

I think it's fine, both Theo and Theodore are nice names and sound sensible enough with Hogan.

AnnieAnoniMouser · 12/05/2018 13:36

I don’t think it works very well really, the transition between the ‘eo’ and ‘ho’ isn’t easy. I wouldn’t do it myself, however, it’s far from the worst I’ve heard.

Lemond1fficult · 12/05/2018 13:44

Mmm. There's a new Bill n Ted film coming out next year.... and Ted's name is Theodore Logan. So maybe not an issue, but your kid will be told to 'Party On, dude' a lot, because kids don't care how tenuous their teases are.

MikeUniformMike · 12/05/2018 13:48

I don't think it goes and I don't like Theodore.

DramaAlpaca · 12/05/2018 15:01

I don't have any problem saying it so I think it's fine. Personally I'd go for Theodore nn Theo.

chezmk1988 · 12/05/2018 16:38

I think it's ok. Or use Theodore and Theo for sure if you're worried.

I agree

Joeybee · 12/05/2018 16:54

Theodore Hogan definitely flows better than just Theo Hogan. Theo Hogan is a little bit difficult to say, but it works.
I think go with Theodore, and Theo for a nickname.

Sophronia · 12/05/2018 17:48

Theodore Hogan sounds better.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 12/05/2018 17:50

I like it.

MikeUniformMike · 12/05/2018 18:51

Yes but given the popularity of the name he will probably be one of many Theos so will be known as Theo Hogan, I think it sounds a bit like Oh ho ho.

gwen25 · 12/05/2018 23:42

Theodore Hogan sounds much better.

buttercup54321 · 12/05/2018 23:43

Theodore Hogan looks better on BC

BertieBotts · 12/05/2018 23:43

I don't think the film connection will matter. Children his age aren't likely to watch something like that until they are at least 8 or 10 and by then the film won't be popular any more anyway.

RavenWings · 12/05/2018 23:45

I think it's fine. Maybe a bit clunky when compared to Theodore Hogan, but Theo is far nicer than Theodore anyway.

ShatnersBassoon · 12/05/2018 23:49

Oh Ho. No.

I think it's hard to say without it sounding like your surname is O'Hogan. That might just be me.

Personally I’d want a plosive in there somewhere between the “eo” and the “(h)o” sounds. Otherwise you’ll end up with “Thee-o-o-gun” pronunciations (which would bother me).

How about Leon, Nathan, Theobold, Ajax..?

pilates · 13/05/2018 08:41

It doesn’t flow particularly well

BB2018 · 13/05/2018 08:44

I think either Theo or Theodore works just fine, lovely name!
