Is this useable with my surname?

I am 24 weeks pregnant with a boy and I've been trying to come up with a name for so long.
A name which I keep coming back to (and even keep thinking of the baby as) is Stanley.
I love little old man names like Albert, Theordore, Arthur and I think Stanley is fantastic as it is not growing in popularity like those other names, and I am not a fan of overly popular names.

However my Surname is a hyphenated name made of two R names, the first being Rigby. Is the 'Y' sound in Stanley too much with Rigby? Or am I overthinking this?

The y and y sounds together are fine. Unless the second part of your surname also has a y sound at the end, in which case I’d rethink

ScreamingValenta · 12/05/2018 03:07

I've run this through my mental radio, OP, and it sounds fine.

Littlemum2be86 · 12/05/2018 08:52

Sounds absolutely fine to me!

hopingforhappiness · 12/05/2018 09:43

I think it would be fine.
And Stanley is a lovely name.
One of the nicest young men I ever knew was called Stanley.

Sounds fine but if you are concerned about popularity, it might depend on where we you live - I think Stanley has been quite popular in places like London and Brighton over the last decade - a bit hipster maybe? Outside those areas will be less common.

I think as long as the second part if your name isn't a 'y' ending then it's fine.

Stanley Rigby-Rogers is fine
Stanley Rigby-Riley not so much

Do you also like Stan, as that's probably what he'll get called a lot?

DramaAlpaca · 12/05/2018 15:03

It's fine.

Joeybee · 12/05/2018 16:52

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm glad that people think Stanley goes okay. My surname is very like Rigby-Rogers in sound if that helps.
I'd discussed the name with my Husband a little while ago and he seemed to like it...so I hope he still does, as I'm really starting to think this is THE name.
I've been looking into names since August 2016, so it's a relief to think I may have found one.

Stanley is crazy popular. I have two primary aged DC and I know lots of Stanleys 7yo and younger.

DramaAlpaca · 12/05/2018 18:44

I only know one & he's a teenager.

ThursdayLastWeek · 12/05/2018 18:47

Yeah, Stanley is v popular where I am too.
It was on our list in 2012 but we were out off by another pregnant friend.
It’s a great name! Just don’t be surprised if there are more Stan's out there than you think.

Joeybee · 12/05/2018 22:49

I'm living in Australia now, I don't think it's popular here at all compared to the UK. Plus I think even if it does rise in popularity, it won't end up in the top 20

It will be fine as long as the second hypenanted surname ends with a hard consonant.

UsernameTaken2 · 12/05/2018 23:23

I think it sounds fine. We have a Stanley in our family and his name occasionally does get shortened to Stan but he just politely corrects them and it's not a problem
