Thea

We seem to really struggle for girl's names. Took us a week to decide on DD1's name (Harriet).

I recently saw the name Thea and thought it was lovely.

Is it a generally well liked name?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MikeUniformMike · 11/05/2018 20:14

Probably. I'm not keen, but it's perfectly OK.

daisypond · 11/05/2018 20:26

I like it a lot.

s098 · 11/05/2018 20:32

I have a Thea, i wasn't too sure on it before she was born but I'm glad we went with it ☺

RexManning · 11/05/2018 20:50

I absolutely love it, but I wouldn't use it in a part of the country where 'th' is routinely pronounced 'f'.

DramaAlpaca · 11/05/2018 20:53

Harriet is much, much nicer. Thea sounds soft & insubstantial in comparison. I don't like it at all, tbh.

Sophronia · 11/05/2018 21:57

I’m not keen.

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/05/2018 22:12

I like it; it's in the same category for me as Freya , Sybil,Margaret. If she were my DD I would christen her Dorothy or Dorothea to make it more adaptable and give it substance. To look at and listen to the letters THEA have little interest so I would prefer a longer form.Having ssounded a bit negative about the appearance of the name I would say that to me it conjures a mood of independent blue stocking with interwar hints that I like.

chezmk1988 · 11/05/2018 22:22

I like Thea

MaelstromOfLunacy · 11/05/2018 22:31

I have one so I’m biased, love it and have only ever had nice responses to it. She’s an energetic, bonkers, independent whirlwind of a child and I think her name suits her perfectly

Ca55andraMortmain · 11/05/2018 22:31

I have a Thea and am delighted with our choice. Lots of people have complimented it (although we have had a few people go 'oh. That's... unusual) and we don't know any others. I'm surprised to hear pps say it sounds soft - I think it's quite a strong name but that might be because I first heard it from the TV show Arrow where the character is a total badass...

Soph88 · 11/05/2018 22:35

I had never heard of the name Thea until about 2 years ago and now I know 3 little girls called Thea. It seems to be growing in popularity. I'm not overly keen but again I'm from a part of the country where the 'th' would be pronounced 'f'

RaininSummer · 11/05/2018 22:40

Love it.

AmberNectarine · 11/05/2018 22:45

Smashing name. Slightly biased as my little niece is a Thea!

Cosmoa · 11/05/2018 22:47

I have a friend named Theadora but she goes by Thea

IAmALionTamer · 11/05/2018 22:51

I really like it! I know one and she is just such a happy girl so it makes the name even nicer in my eyes.

BackforGood · 11/05/2018 23:08

I like it.
Fulfills all my criteria of not being confusing to spell, nor pronounce; isn't the name of something; isn't particularly 'fashionable' or 'of a time'; it common enough for people to 'know' the name when they hear it, but rare enough for there not to be 2 or 3 in every group she is ever part of. Smile

bridgetreilly · 12/05/2018 05:43

It's a lovely name.

Mollie85 · 12/05/2018 16:04

One of my favourites

AmazingPostVoices · 12/05/2018 16:08

I think it’s lovely

Rhodes2015again · 12/05/2018 16:12

It’s beautiful!

pilates · 12/05/2018 16:18

Sorry I don’t like it because of the “fear”

AmazingPostVoices · 12/05/2018 16:24

Pilates but that’s only in certain accents surely?

gwen25 · 12/05/2018 16:25

I'm not keen, sorry.

thegreylady · 12/05/2018 16:29

I love it but would go with Dorothea , Theodora or Althea on the birth certificate.

Lifeaback · 12/05/2018 16:34

Ive never met either an adult or child Thea, and I think it's a beautiful name which goes well with Harriet
