Our list is as further below.
Which one do you like? Can you rate them between 1-10 or say which ones you like best? We live in the U.K., but have Greek and Spanish heritage

Matilde / Matilda (DH’s favourite)
Eleonora (DM’s favourite, we did ask her)
Vanesa
Tereza
Thisbe (one of my favourites pronounced ThEEZ-bee)
Cecilia
Phoebe
Ariadne
Semeli (pronounced Se-ME-lee, too similar to smelly?)
Amalia (We have a DS Emilio, too similar?)

Matilde / Matilda (DH’s favourite) - it's nice enough but Matilda at least if so so popular here to the point it's lost it's spark for me. It would make a refreshing middle name though

Eleonora (DM’s favourite, we did ask her) - I love it but spelt Eleanora also like Eleanore. Love Norah for short

Vanesa - not a fan
Tereza - not a fan but quite like Tess
Thisbe (one of my favourites pronounced ThEEZ-bee) - I like it

Cecilia - it's ok

Phoebe - love it. My favourite

Ariadne - not a fan

Semeli (pronounced Se-ME-lee, too similar to smelly?) - I really don't like it

Amalia (We have a DS Emilio, too similar?) - prettier than Amelia. It's ok

flowermug2 · 10/05/2018 11:04

Ariadne is one of my favourite names in the world.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/05/2018 11:09

My dd had a friend Ariadne when she was little and her mum got loads of comments about it ect as it was so unusual. However I feel now that's it's starting to creep up very very slowly (albeit) and become faddy and over used.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/05/2018 11:13

Ariadne

  1. Eleonora
  2. Matilde / Matilda
  3. Phoebe
  4. Cecilia

Acceptable for a middle name
Tereza - looks like a modern spelling and I don't like it anyway
Thisbe - frisbee. Lifetime of spelling and pronouncing.

Not on my list, not getting a rating
Vanesa Feltz - say no more
Semei - too similar to smelly
Amalia - Emilio, too similar

susurration · 10/05/2018 11:20

Matilda and Eleanora

blairsey · 10/05/2018 11:49

Favourite to least favourite would be:
Amalia (Although, it is a bit too similar to Emilio, what about Mahalia?)
Vanessa
Cecilia
Phoebe
Eleonora
Matilde / Matilda
Tereza
Ariadne
Thisbe
Semeli

Have to say though, I strongly dislike Tereza, Ariadne, Thisbe and Semeli. Think they're pretty awful/dated.

Momadream · 10/05/2018 11:54

Seems like the below are the winners:
Eleonora
Matilda
Phoebe, isn’t this as popular as Matilda?
Ariadne, my cousin who I rarely see, maybe we meet once every 5 years has a daughter named this. Wouldn’t it be bad if we used this considering there is one in the family already? Her dad is my mom’s brother so she is close family...

Matilda definitely x

flybabyfly · 10/05/2018 12:36

If your cousin has a daughter called Ariadne, I wouldn’t use the same name... it’s fairly close family after all. I would go for Matilda or Phoebe.

Proudmummy2MA · 10/05/2018 12:49

In order of preference, my favourite names are:
Ariadne (although I wouldn't use it if close family had the same name)
Phoebe
Matilda
Eleonora
Cecilia
Amalia

I'm not keen on Matilde, Vanesa or Tereza
and I don't like Thisbe or Semeli (sorry)

I'd choose Phoebe, with Amalia as a middle name.

Whyareyoudoingthat · 10/05/2018 12:52

Cecilia
Phoebe
Eleonora

No to 'Mrs Thisbe and the rats of Nimh'

TatianaLarina · 10/05/2018 12:56

If you go with the most popular on here OP you will end up with names that a zillion other English girls have.

Given your cultures you could go for something more unusual.

Momadream · 10/05/2018 13:12

I know what you mean TatianaLarina, but I find it so hard this time around DD1 has a very unusual name that I also love but do not want to mention for privacy reasons. Find it so hard this time around though. I wanted something unusual close to our cultures but I want to like it as well and to avoid bullying and all this makes it so hard to find something.
Phoebe I love and though Thisbe was similar but it seems it has a teasing potential too...
Any recommendations are welcome but I examined so many names I can’t seem to find the right one...

Rated by order of preference:
Matilde / Matilda
Cecilia
Phoebe
Eleonora
Amalia
Vanesa
Tereza
Ariadne (reminds me of spiders)
Semeli (yes sounds like Smelly)
Thisbe (sounds like frizbee)

TatianaLarina · 10/05/2018 13:28

Phoebe is great. It’s both Greek in origin and popular - but not too popular - here.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 10/05/2018 13:28

Eleonora is lovely, very graceful. It's perfect for a child or woman with lots of possible short names if needed (Norah, Elle etc). My second favourite is Ariadne. Both lovely names.

I do like Paloma very much as mentioned upthread. A Greek friend is called Xanthe, which I also like.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 10/05/2018 13:29

P.s. Emilio and Eleonora sound gorgeous together! Love Emilio.

TatianaLarina · 10/05/2018 13:30

Much prefer Leonora to Eleonora.

AnyaMoondial · 10/05/2018 13:31

I like cecilia a lot. Phoebe and Matilda are both great too.

MollyHuaCha · 10/05/2018 13:49

Matilde / Matilda - lovely
Eleonora - very nice
Vanesa - very nice. I prefer double 's'
Tereza - nice
Thisbe - very nice
Cecilia - gorgeous
Phoebe - very nice
Ariadne - lovely
Semeli - absolutely not
Amalia - no

meetthewildes · 10/05/2018 19:43

Oh golly, I love love LOVE Thisbe and it was very nearly the name of one of my girl twins (they are Embla and Olympia). My partner doesn't love it nearly so much as I do and I don't think it will be making a revival for our baby #5.

Do use Thisbe. It is so refreshingly uncommon and very easy to spell and pronounce once people are introduced to the name!

talimom500 · 11/05/2018 03:25

I love Matilda and Eleonora, and Eleonora would be a nice sibling name for Emilio. Amalia is SO pretty, but I think it’s too close to Emilio. I don’t love any of the other choices, I’m sorry.

deptfordgirl · 11/05/2018 06:41

My favourite is Matilda, then Cecilia and then Ariadne.

Momadream · 11/05/2018 12:37

My name is Elena, will that be too similar to Eleonora? That’s the main thing that puts me off. How about the version of Eleonora that is Elinora? Is that an equally nice sound? Seem to be more drawn to that

  1. Matilde / Matilda - LOVE this name. If it weren't so popular here in Australia I'd use it. It's just so elegant and timeless, but also strong and
grows well with a child into an adult. 2.Phoebe - Old lady name which is making a comeback and I love it. There is the association with Friends, but I think our childrens generation would not care about that! 3.Cecilia - This was on my list before I found out I'm having a boy. I love that it's not too out there, but not common. Also Cece, or Celia are great nicknames. What puts me off a little is that I keep seeing it spelt 'Cecelia' which is just wrong! 4.Eleonora - Nice Alternate to Eleanor with the added bonus of Nora as a nickname, which is awesome. 5.Vanesa - I'd spell it with two S's. It's a bit of a dated name, but I think it is going to rise in popularity and become trendy, rather than 80's soon. 6Tereza - Love the name, don't like this spelling. Only because you/the child would constantly have to spell out their name to people, which gets REALLY annoying. 7.Amalia (We have a DS Emilio, too similar?) - Lovely name, but I agree too close to Emilio. 8.Ariadne - Nice name. I like the sound. However people are going to struggle with its pronunciation.

Don't like either of these name I'm afraid.
Thisbe - Just sounds like Frizbee.
Semeli- Smelly....just, no.
