I love this name but I know it's an old name. I was thinking of having Ivy Elizabeth. What are your honest opinions?

I think Amy is very dated, not nice at all really. Ivy is lovely, much more fresh and modern. I don't really think of it as a 'granny name' at all. It's not similar to those Doris, Margaret, Gertrude types of names that are a bit garish. And Ivy Elizabeth sounds beautiful.

Bummymum · 04/05/2018 02:25

Are you fucking mental?! Ivy is a beautiful plant. And a lovely name.

isthisspring · 04/05/2018 02:26

Ivy is a lovely name.

LuluMarie · 04/05/2018 02:32

It’s lovely, very classy!

I prefer your first choice to be honest, classic, stylish, will suit a young woman as well as a little one!

(Yes Beyoncé has upped the style stakes on the name too and a name with meaning is special!)

MrsDilber · 04/05/2018 02:58

Love it.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 04/05/2018 07:57

Ivy is considered to be a weed.

DramaAtTheTurkeyCafe · 04/05/2018 08:22

It's always puzzled me why Ivy isn't more popular when names like Holly and Bryony (also berry related) have been in fashion recently. I think Ivy Elizabeth flows better than Elizabeth Ivy and would be a great choice of name - easily recognisable but not done to death.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 04/05/2018 09:15

Ivy is a weed not a plant though.

Colonelpopcorn · 04/05/2018 09:17

I love love love ivy. Dh has vetoed it. My great grandmother was called ivy.

YouStacey · 04/05/2018 09:20

A weed is a plant growing in the wrong place, so by that token a rose and a daisy might also be classed as weeds.
I think it's a lovely name.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 04/05/2018 09:28

Roses don't grow in the wrong place though Confused

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/05/2018 09:32

Ivy is lovely and on the rise in popularity. I have only come across 2 so far. Both under 3. I much prefer Ivy to Amy

mehhh · 04/05/2018 10:36

I love Ivy Elizabeth!

YouStacey · 04/05/2018 10:42

If a Rose does grow in a wrong place - middle of an asparagus bed, say, and is unwanted there then it's a weed.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 04/05/2018 10:55

Oh please. Hardly the same as ivy. That could be said for any flower that grows somewhere it's not supposed to!

YouStacey · 04/05/2018 11:52

Yes, and that is the very definition of a weed! Not that the whole plant world has classified individual plants as desirable or undesirable.
In my garden ivy is a weed when it's trying to scramble up and swamp my birch tree; it's a loved and admired foliage and brilliant home for insects (and therefore bird food) when covering my ugly fences.
My original point being that ivy is not a plant that can simply be written off as just a weed.

Love the name Ivy, very pretty and girly :)

user1499786242 · 04/05/2018 12:53

Love the name ivy
I would use it myself but it sounds awful when said in our local accent 😭

AlyTab · 04/05/2018 18:55

Love Ivy! Forgot about that name actually that was one of the names that I was considering at the very start of my pregnancy. It is a beautiful name honestly :)

Fifthtimelucky · 05/05/2018 15:01

I like both names, but think Elizabeth Ivy sounds much better than Ivy Elizabeth.

It looks unbalanced to me having a short first name followed by a long middle name. But of course it will sound different with the surname added on.

RuthW · 05/05/2018 17:58

I like it but very very popular at the moment.

MaureenSowerbutts · 05/05/2018 18:03

I don't know any..not popular here and I love it.
