I think we may have finally agreed on a girls name. We are thinking Niamh.

Just after any thoughts?

I have a Niamh, she's 16 now and I've never regretted it for a second, even though I was advised against it for pronunciation reasons.
People get used to it and in the meantime the Christmas cards are hilarious, the best we had was adressed to 'Knife'Grin

IHaveBrilloHair · 03/05/2018 20:29

LincsK Go for Roisin if you love it, my friend has one and she's great, it's a lovely name.
People get used to it and learn how to spell it.

sonnyboo · 03/05/2018 20:59

I wouldn't know how to pronounce it if I saw it written down. Is it Welsh?

Thetimehascometo · 04/05/2018 00:44

@Shutupanddance1 can I be cheeky and ask what you went with please!

i have a niamh rose,it still sounds really pretty and girly to me

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/05/2018 07:54

Lovely name

dinosaurkisses · 04/05/2018 08:04

Neve is an abomination! It doesn’t even help with the pronounciation as it looks like it would be said like Never but without the R.

It’s a nice name- it was particularly popular in Ireland in the early 2000s which I think has helped it travel well.

sonnyboo · 04/05/2018 08:11

Should it be spelled phonetically as Neev?

flipflop67 · 04/05/2018 08:14

I'm Irish and a Gaelic speaker and I pronounce it Nee-uv

snowy1982 · 04/05/2018 08:21

Beautiful name (it’s my 1st choice if we have a girl) and definitely stick with the correct spelling

Shutupanddance1 · 04/05/2018 10:41

@Thetimehascometo I went with Méabh. - my poor Lebanese doctor, he didn’t have a hope pronouncing it when he seen it first.

I’m going for another full on Gaelic name for my second as well due in 6 weeks Grin

Thetimehascometo · 04/05/2018 11:23

Ahh amazing @Shutupanddance1 love a good Gaelic name but we aren’t feeling that brave. DH has Eastern European heritage so we are throwing in and Eastern European middle name 🙊 so want to give the kid a chance with a more well known Gaelic name. Hilariously it looks like if we have a boy we are going for a very strong British name 🙈

I want to love it as I usually love all things Irish but just don't like the sound (too much like 'reave' or even 'sneeze' for me) or the spelling (looks unfinished at the end).

Takemetovegas · 04/05/2018 11:36

Love it. I have a Bridget and a Neave- spelt for convenience.

sonnyboo · 04/05/2018 12:34

Neave I would know how to pronounce!

SparklySeashell · 04/05/2018 12:43

Yep, lovely!
