Elsie-May or Elsie-Rose?

catattack123 · 01/05/2018 22:08

Can't decide between Elsie-May or Elsie-Rose, and with or without the -? My mums name is Rosemary, which is why I wanted Elsie-Rose but if we went with May then the middle name will be Rosalie :)
My DP is a bit useless as he says he likes both!
What do you prefer?

Don’t hyphenate the names. Pick one name and have the other as a middle name. Wtf is it with hyphenated names?

Iwantaunicorn · 02/05/2018 00:36

I like Elsie May, but hyphens in either a first name or surname are a pain in the bum - most air lines don’t recognise them, so she’ll end up Elsiemay, and sometime when spelling out the name over the phone for example, people don’t know what a hyphen is (seriously!). I’d personally use both May and Rose as middle names, Elsie May Rose sounds really lovely.

Elsie Rose

JustaLittlePrick · 02/05/2018 02:28

Don't hyphenate, it's childish.

If you want to call her Elsie, then do that as a stand alone name and give her Rosemary or Rose as her middle name.

Littlemum2be86 · 02/05/2018 06:36

I agree with everyone that hyphenating ruins the name. Elsie is such a pretty name! Seems a shame to hyphenate it.

Elsie Rosalie without the hyphen is lovely.

Elsie Rosemary. No hyphen.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 02/05/2018 10:13

Elsie Rose.

GreenStars · 02/05/2018 10:19

Rose and May are the most overused, boring middle names.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 02/05/2018 10:54

Rose something else. Elsie is awful.

MumofBoysx2 · 02/05/2018 10:55

Elsie Rose without the hyphen is nice. I think hyphens are a little overused and getting a bit tacky these days.

rach01pink · 02/05/2018 10:58

Love Elsie-Rose

TheFace · 02/05/2018 13:53

Not into the hyphen but if I had to choose then Elsie-May is the better option imo.

What about Roselyn, Rosalind, or just Rose on it's own?

SugarMiceInTheRain · 02/05/2018 13:57

Don't give her a hyphenated name, please! Elsie, fine. Rosalie is lovely. Soooo many little girls everywhere with ....-May or ....-Rose names, they really are unimaginative filler names.

Flossie4 · 02/05/2018 15:39

hyphen anything is dated and naff and especially May or Rose - the most boring, generic filler names of our generation

Yup

dead common.

Flossie4 · 02/05/2018 15:41

Elsie always makes me think of loud, brash Elsie Tanner, of Coronation Street fame.

NordicNobody · 02/05/2018 16:01

I adore the name Elsie and my middle name is also May. I know it's a big overused nowadays but I love it and always get compliments when people hear it. So I'd go with Elsie May but probably without the hyphen. You could just use two middle names if you wanted Rosalie? I used to teach the most beautiful little twin girls called Elsie and Paige and think they also go nicely together as a first and middle name.

RavenWings · 02/05/2018 22:10

Absolute no to the hyphen, it ruins the names.

May and Rose are a bit blah as middle names, but at a push I'd have Rose. Elsie May conjures up images of Southern State toddlers and tiaras entrants. I liked your Rosalie idea but I'm not sure about Elsie Rosalie, too many ee sounds there.

For something including elementa of Rosemary but are a bit less generic, what about:
Elsie Marie
Elsie Rosa
Elsie Rosanna

RavenWings · 02/05/2018 22:11

Grr, Elsie Maria not Elsie Marie - although I do like Elsie Marie but it's a bit ee sound heavy.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 02/05/2018 22:11

Elsie may (no hyphen) is lovely

chezmk1988 · 03/05/2018 14:19

I think hyphenated names are chavvy and ruins the Elsie part of the name. Why not have the other as a middle name? Out of may or rose. Rose is best

DrinkYourGreenTea · 03/05/2018 15:38

Elsie RosemaryWink

I would personally go for this. You want to honour your mum, so use her full name. And Rose and May are so popular at the minute. I would also avoid hyphenation, it’s very cutesy.

Emily7708 · 03/05/2018 16:02

I would go for Elsie Rosemary, no hyphens. It’s not honouring your mum if you give your DD a completely different name, albeit with the same beginning. It’s clearly saying her actual name isn’t nice enough for your DD.

blackteasplease · 04/05/2018 09:32

I like Elsie Rosa without the hyphen myself.

blackteasplease · 04/05/2018 09:33

Ps my middle name was Ann which is the stock filler name of my generation and Ive always resented it! It's the May or Rose equivalent definitely!
